Funeral conflict

Oh geesh people. Of course it was possible! off roading it enabled me to bypass about 8 stop lights…

But it seems that people are just focusing on the driving which is universally talked about in commercials or movies or TV shows with a frantic father to be driving crazy to get his wife to the hospital. But on CAF I guess it becomes a debate of mortal sin and mathematical possibilities… I swear people! Sometimes I just want to bang my head against the wall:banghead:

Which now you can debate the morality of self punishment by smacking a cranium against a brick wall… And the math behind the force behind it.
Well, once the rotors of your chopper stop spinning down after your half hour 60 mile trip back home, remember to check the fuel level before you load up your wife and fly off the the hospital, you wouldn’t want to have to autorotate into a field halfway there when the contractions are 5 min. apart 😃 That could end up being a very mortal sin… in every possible way.

Here’s another consideration, not having too much to do with sin. Your friend may forgive your absence at the funeral if he knows your wife is due any day.

But if you miss your wife’s delivery, you may end up sleeping on the couch for a very long time

I think it best to play it by ear. Obviously, if she is having major contractions that morning, its a no go. Otherwise, a hour isn’t so bad. Lots of folks commute that long and I never heard guy say he was taking off work to wait for a baby that wasn’t giving any sign yet.

That’s a good point, lots of people have similar situations.

Is there any chance you can set up arrangements with someone else to take her (family, close friend) and for someone to watch the kids if the time comes while you are away? I certainly wouldn’t want to wait for my husband 1 hr away if I thought my time was here, but I wouldn’t mind him leaving to go 1 hr away if we had a plan just in case I did go into labor while he was gone.

Another thought, how far is the funeral home from the hospital? Could she go with you? Take the kids if you need to… They could all go somewhere nearby in the meantime if you didn’t want them at the funeral.

I really don’t have an issue driving far from my hospital (my kids school is about 1.5 hrs from my hospital, and I would drive there, with my mom, when I was overdue) if I am not high risk etc. I know where all the other local hospitals are just in case I cannot make it to my hospital.

I don’t know how things are for your wife, how fast she usually goes (which could vary by child, but I do know some people tend to be consistent). Now, 5 out of 6 of my kids have been induced, and the one that whose labor did not start with induction took his time, so that may influence my opinion!

SIL works downtown, their house is in the suburbs. The commute is about an hour on a good day. That didn’t keep him home in the last week of DD’s pregnancy. I think if she had needed to go at rush hour she would have cabbed from the house and he would have met her at the hospital.

Heck, when I went into labour with DD, DH had to go to work because he was covering a friend’s shift. He went to work and my friend took me to the hospital. He got the friend he was covering for to come in and do the second half of the shift and joined me then.

None of my labours were long, but none were under 6 hours.

Thanks for all the good advice.

As long as there are no contractions, I’ll go to funeral. Like a lot of people said, it’s only an hour away. If by chance stuff starts early, her mom can drive her to the hospital and I can meet them there.

On a side note, can my friend and his family have a few prayers?Parkinson’s Disease is what took his father**.

Prayers for your friend and his family, and the for the soul of his dad.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.

Your all in my prayers. Please let us know how everything goes. I had a close cousin drive me to the hospital with several of my babies, my husband was at work, and we made it just fine. Her Mom will take good care of her while your there. Moms are good at that. God Bless, Memaw
