Funeral Eucharist Abuses

I believe that the Church in her mission of mercy is much more forgiving of requirements during funeral Masses, and canonically offers Holy Communion to anyone who asks to receive it. It is not a desecration on the part of the Church to do so, nor is it a scandal or an abuse.

I have no choice but to put this bluntly:

Sir, you are a nut. There is absolutely no church teaching behind this statement, and all of it against it.

Yet, we all read of the much publicized recent case where someone was refused Communion, and the priest was sacked. Sure other reasons were cited, but the publicity was enormous, and the message to the public clear (right or wrong).

Bottom line, of course, is that reception of Holy Communion in the Catholic Church is a sacred institution, one which could hopefully be respected by Catholics (practicing and fallen) and non-Catholics alike.

I found that very unfortunate. We need more bishops with strong backbones.
