I am a relatively new Catholic. I sing in a funeral choir, but wonder if “I Lift Up My Soul” (Psalm 26) can be used as the Responsorial Psalm at a Requiem Mass? Would this Psalm be appropriate?
“To you, Father, I lift up my soul, O my God”

Father, show Your ways to me. Teach me your paths and keep me in the ways of Your truth, for You are the God that saves me. etc

It depends on how your perspective is on a Requiem mass, if you’re looking at mourning, then “I Lift Up My Soul” might not be the best. If you’re looking at a mass that is uplifting, commending the soul to God, because they are in the hope that they will rise again with Christ, so yes, “I Lift Up My Soul” could be an appropriate choice.

tl;dr, depends on your perspective. mourning, sadness, then no, happiness, hope, then it’s fine, IMHO.

Hoped this helped.
