Funeral rite for the unborn

I’m wondering if anyone knows if there is a funeral rite specifically for a miscarried or aborted child. And if so, where can I find it? Thanks!

fr. frank pavone officiated at such a funeral mass here in detroit earlier this year. i would check out the priests for life website first.
 
Diane K., who owns this blog te-deum.blogspot.com/ has covered a number of Masses for the aborted that have taken place at our parish. I believe the Mass that has been said for these children has just been the Mass for the dead, not a funeral Mass however. But if you contact her via her site I’m sure she can give you much more detail.

It would likely be a Funeral Rite for a Child and the prayers would be those for a child who died before baptism.
 
Tecnically it would not be a funeral mass since there are no remains present. It would be a memorial mass. We have done memorial masses for deceased children, those who died before being born. I don’t remember what readings we did. One things we did was have a book available before mass for parents to write something (a name, a sentiment, a prayer or petition) and we displayed that during the mass in the place where a coffin would usually be in a funeral mass.
 
at grotto they did have a funeral mass for aborted babies - remains that they found in abortion mill dumpsters 😦
 
In some cases, as stated above, remains are available for burial.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I wasn’t able to see immediately what I was looking for on the websites provided, but there was some really interesting stuff on there all the same. I’ll have to research this further.

You realy need look no further than the Sacramentary. The Mass text “Funeral Mass of a Child Who Died Before Baptism” is the Mass which exists for this purpose.

I don’t know of one online. But it’s in every Sacramentary, and should be in every (hardbound) printing of the Funeral Rites.

I would imagine that due to copyrights, you might not be able to find it online, but try a search and see what happens.

It’s only the three prayers (opening, offertory, and post-communion), other than that it’s basically the same as any other funeral Mass (if the body is present) or Mass for the Dead (if not).

The significant difference between this Mass and other Masses for the dead is that the Masses for the dead specifically pray for the forgiveness of the soul of the departed, but this one prays for the survivors because the infant committed no actual sins.
