I was searching for something by the Jesuits in my country (Ignation Retreats if I remember right), the first thing I found on google (this was last night) “Why Not Priest?”, I’m starting to think the Lord has forgotten Canon Law ¬¬ lol
Skeptic…keep in mind, there are always exceptions. Have you tried talking to the vocations director if you go try for the seminary early?

I’m in contact with the rector of OLGS, and he’s unwilling to accept me until I’ve been Catholic for 3 years, so I can form myself fully as a Catholic before I take the leap into Seminary, which means it will be September 2012 that I enter Seminary (it should be September 2013, but he’s asked me to apply next year and he’ll review my case with all the needed paperwork.

I may yet apply to the SSPX if the talks with Rome prove fruitful

So, I was on the road to Virginia Beach this afternoon, and I was thinking about my vocation, and out of no where, this van came up in front of me, and the back of it said, “Here am I, Lord, send me,” quoting Isaiah 6:8. Then, I looked to my left and there was another truch with the same quote on the back. Then there was a car, which had the license plate that said, “RUN2ME.” It was funny because I don’t read license plates, and when I decide to read one, that’s what comes up.

I was awe-struck. It doesn’t get any more obvious than that.
:eek::eek::eek:

Jesus sure has His eyes on you!

OK, I had an absolutely amazing one today after Mass. I’m starting to like the 7:00 pm Mass at the Cathedral, and both priests there are awesome. Anyways, after Mass was over, everyone was filing out and shaking Father’s hand as they left. As he shook my hand he asked me, “Why aren’t you in seminary yet?” I responded with a shocked. “What?!” I then told him that I had one more year of high school left. I asked him who told him that I want to go to seminary, and he said no one did. He laughed and said, “I’m a priest, the Holy Spirit tells me these things.” He also invited me to lunch or dinner sometime and told me to call him as well!

I’ve been praying to God for some kind of sign, and He really delivered! I have never had that happen to me before. God can work in some truly wonderful ways. 😃

That’s awesome! 👍

God really does deliver.

That’s like what my vocations director said. “Um, it’s pretty obvious. I can tell that that’s what God wants you to do.”

That’s so cool and caring that he wants to invite you to dinner. How sweet!

SO JEALOUS! In a good way, of course. 😃

Every Saturday morning at my parish, there’s a prayer cenacle followed by Mass. Every other Saturday afternoon, I altar serve at Mass. Usually I don’t serve at the morning Mass. The other day (Saturday), I was sitting in my pew kneeling after the cenacle, waiting for Mass. The man who was to serve that day asked me if I would serve for him (I don’t know why he couldn’t). I said that I would, and I did. It happened to be a Saturday where I served in the afternoon, too. When I entered the sacristy, I said “I’m back!” One of our sacristans, who is quite crabby, said to me, “You ought to move in here.” I thought to myself, We’ll see about that.

The funny thing is, if I go to seminary and am ordained, the year I am ordained coincides with the year the pastor of my parish is due to retire. Coincidence? I think not.

This is my first post in the Vocations subforum, by the way.

Haha. I get that too when I serve. I haven’t served since the beginning of July, though because I was out of town. I’m usually serving at the early Sunday morning Mass every week. One lady came up to me and said, “You’re a permanent fixture up there.” Then she proceeded to say, “They should just name the church after you.” 😃 Serving Mass and reading really bring me the greatest joy. It’s the highlight of my week; I should say.

Welcome to the Vocations subforum!

Yeah, I love serving, and the liturgy, so much. It’s just awesome. I wish I could read at Mass, but the woman in charge of the lectors (the same woman who told me I should move into the church) always says, “No! You’re only fifteen; you MUST be sixteen to be a lector! NO EXCEPTIONS!” Haha.

Oh, yeah, welcome! 😃
Thanks! 🙂

Our Priest handles the Lectors, and he wants more young people (teenagers and up) to read at Mass, his reason: We’re better readers then the older lot, we speak loudly and clearly, unlike some of our current lectors ¬¬ if you are going to mumble while reading, you should not be proclaiming the word of God at Mass!

I was going to help with planning the liturgy and music at Mass, however the Music Coordinator, and other members of my parish find me a bit to… whats the word… traditional? It is quite funny lol

I can see myself at a planning session.

Music director: “Okay, how about we do ‘Gather Us In’ as the processional.”
Me: :o “Ummmmmmm…”
Music director: “Oh, not again.”

He definitely has a sense of humor 👍
Definitely. Not only has he given me things/hints and such, with me twice I have seen visions of Our Lady and feel the strong presence of two saints that i feel close too: St Agnes of Rome and St Therese, the Little Flower. And recently I have felt the presence of my guardian angel and St. Teresa of Avila. I am planning on reading her book of The Interior Castle or The Mansions. I am looking at the Carmelite and Cisterian Orders. I am thinking more of the Cisterian Order because it is closer to home than the nearest Carmelite monestary and because I don’t want to be to far from my family, should they need me and i don’t like going to far from places from which I fimilar with.

I love this subforum. Thanks for sharing all the funny stories. It sure made me laugh.

One thing that i remember was the first time that God showed what he wanted me to do. I was at mass with my class in kindergarten, would you believe that. I was kneeling and praying when a clear picture of a nun appeared to me and i instantly knew that was what God wanted me to be when i grew up.

A funny story, i was in i think third grade and I was at the school mass with my class and i was singing along with the song leader and some of the notes were kinda high but I could sing them. My classmates were all starring at me and i complained to our teacher. I was like: “I was just trying to sing to God with the song leader.” At the time it wasn’t funny but when I look back at now I just laugh.

Do you think this means tthat God is calling me to be a Carmelite? I was just thinking of this not to long ago and maybe once before.

DevotedChild,

I’m offering these words as something to ponder over, not as correction :o so please don’t take them as a criticism: before an application is made to a particular community, it’s important to be thoroughly familiar with the history and spirituality of the particular religious family. Which house happens to be nearer to you or to your family isn’t really the point; it’s a question of which community you feel drawn towards in your discernment, and as one of my spiritual directors put it, which saints with whom we feel most at home, and the particular expression of consecrated life that we’re attracted to.

We come to love a charism, and the people who live it, and become part of that family; proximity should be a very minor consideration, and the discernment of a vocation, never mind a life lived in community, will take you a very long way, spiritually and socially even if not geographically, from places you’re familiar with. That has to be embraced: we can’t control or influence where God wants us to be, and have to surrender ourselves to Him. And yes, that’s easy to say, and not so easy to do. I still struggle with it every day.😉

It is possible yes.

If you chose a monastery based on it’s closeness to your home, you’re making a big mistake because no monastery is going to feel familar and comfortable. God may ask that you sacrifice being near your family. Also be aware that many of the strictest orders do not allow nuns to go home. In a few communities, that applies even for sickness and death of your parents. You will not be able to just pop home if your family “need you”. That is one of the sacrifices. Monastic life is a radical living of the Christian life, it is very hard and you will have to be prepared for that. You will have to be able to cope with it just being you and God, no distractions, no comforts, no way of escaping from intimate knowledge of yourself and your faults. It is not going to be your current life, even if you pray a lot and go to Mass every day. You will have to live with other people whom you haven’t chosen and may not like, you will have to do things their way not your way and you will have to be obedient to your superior, she may ask things of you that you will find very difficult. You may be asked to learn a different way of praying from what you currently practice, for example.

I will be praying for you. I hope that you will discover where God is calling you.

Thanks you guys. I understand that now. I think it took me watching a movie on St. Therese for that idea to really sink in. For me, i have to see it to really understand it. And that comes from being a visual learner.

What you guys said made me realize that I have a lot to work. I know that I have a long way to go to ever be ready for the religious life. Part of it is I have depression and i have a lot of fears to work out and I am just starting college in two weeks. I also have trust issues due to how I was teased and bullied when I was younger. I am also a shy person. Those are just a few things that I need to work on but Jesus will lead me through it.

It just seems that I have a stronger attraction to that to the monastic life and the orders that really seem to stand out to me are the Carmelites and the Cisterians. I am still open to other orders but those seem to stand out more to me.

kinda a funny movement

I’ve always been kinda shy not really outgoing, I think the seminary will help lessen that, I’m actually a lot less shy then I was a few years ago.

but anyway I was a my home parish and the bishop says mass there most of the time but sometimes not, well he was back after being gone for a month installing new pastors, and I just had this feeling that he would introduce me as a new seminarian. I was hoping he wouldn’t but of course he did and I didn’t stand up right away. lol

being shy gets to you sometimes, lol.

seminary starts in 13 days. 🙂
