Personally, I didn’t find it that funny. However, I’ve seen far more serious works that are more offensive than this one, so I’ll just consign this to the bin and move on.

…has this thread gone over the edge yet??? I’m just waiting for someone to blame this on the “Novus Ordos” Mass…🤷

Or Vatican II, or Bugnini, or John XXIII, or Paul VI, or what-have-you.

Woe unto the man who doeth suchlike. 😉

The fact that someone posted it on this forum in the first place is what’s offensive.

If it was the intent of the cartooninst to mock Christ or offend Christians, then I’m sure he/she is quite pleased to see someone has posted it on a Catholic forum.

BTW, why did you put Novus Ordo in quotation marks ?

Come on Patrick, there is no post above Timothysis’ that infers any such sentiment. Why are you two looking for a problem that isn’t there ?

Do you want one ? It’s really amazing that Catholics will come in here and incite or infer a devisive tone to these threads, aimed at fellow Catholics, when we have a sub-fora named Non-Catholic Religions where HMC is attacked on a daily basis. Yet here is where folks bring the cheap shots.

If those who flat out don’t like traditional minded Catholics would come here and bluntly say something like " I don’t like traditional Catholics. I don’t like their mindset. I don’t like the way they chose to defend the Faith. And I wish the lot of them were banned from this forum". , then I’d at least respect them for their straight forward honesty.

And yes, it’s a two way street. But in this particular thread, when did it start ? And why ?

I suspect the answer is that a off topic cheap shot takes far less effort than a thoughtful contribution or rebuttal.

I know jokes - and this ain’t one. It’s surely not funny…Blasphemous? I wouldn’t go that far because it’s not possible to read the cartoonist’s intent.

Some people think “over humanizing” Jesus makes Him somehow more acceptable - I don’t. My best response to this definitely not funny piece of artwork, would be to ignore it.

Um, I think you misread the intent of my post!
I don’t have anything against traditional Catholics (in fact, I identify myself as one); what I’m trying to say is, well, there are just some people out there who are too keen to lay the blame for every evils on a single person or event (Constantine, Nicea, Vatican II, or whatnot), and frankly, I think that’s just a stupid idea.

Which reminds me, “it’s hard to convey your true intent on the internet.” Perhaps I should have included loads of smilies to convey that that post was tongue-in-cheek. 😛

Fair enough, Mea culpa. I was just agravated the stupid cartoon was posted here in the first place.

Apology to all who read my rant.

Would it be funny if a similar cartoon were made about Mahomet–or would it be considered “islamophobia”?

If it were a rabbi, would it be funny–or anti-semitic?
You mean like:

“Rabbi! You can’t eat that! It’s pork!”

“No. It’s chicken.”

“Oh, okay. Nevermind then.”

Rabbi changes the chicken into pork via a miracle

Blasphemous. And even if it’s not blasphemous, it contributes to our culture of irreverence.

Why would somebody do that? This is all Luther’s fault, clearly!😉 😃
No, it’s actually Constantine’s fault! That dastardly emperor corrupted the Christian Church, bringing about this cartoon. 😉

Just in case someone else misinterprets this: [/TONGUE-IN-CHEEK]

Now I’ll stop.

We’ll just have to wait for Jack Chick to make a tract about it to know for sure who to blame.

Most likely the Masons, Jesuits, Illuminati, and the Girl Scouts all working together.

This cartoon turns our Blessed Lord into a deciever and liar. How could this be exceptable to any Christian? First of all Satan is the Father of all lies and I, for one, do not like Our Blessed Lord being grouped in with Him. Secondly, it depicts Jesus as a deciever, oh how many non-Christians would love to say that Jesus has decieved us all. This is very disrespectful.😦

Now you’ve just sent a horde of Opus Dei assassin monks on our trail and put all our lives in danger for revealing such classified information. I mean, perhaps they would track you and me using that supercomputer under the Vatican!

As for the cartoon, I would not say at once that it is deep under the “blasphemous” category, but it sure is midway on that fine line between bad humour, irreverence and blasphemy. This particular cartoon’s just not funny; I’ve seen more stuff who are actually more humourous than this one. Bad taste, that’s what this is.

It wouldn’t surprise me. The Jesuits orchistrated every evil act in the last 200 years.

But at least they had the decency to invent coca-cola and sliced bread.👍

But I’ve noticed that blasphemy is often sugar-coated and many professing Chistians are fooled into thinking it is harmless. If you insulted somebody’s mother, but had a smile on your face - it’s still punch-in-the-nose worthy.😃
