At least the people are wearing decent clothes…here in Florida, men & women wear shorts, sandals( with no socks) and low cut tops on women. 😦

People receive communion & walk right out the door while chewing on the Host or talk to someone & out the door.

This is wonderful! We’re having a class on “Mass Confusion” and are dealing with some of this. Thanks so much. I emailed the link to our leader of the class.!

To be frank, I’ve been to Florida once, and I cannot imagine wearing anything formal to the church there. 😃

And, technically, I am sure our predecessor Christians in the times of Apostles, living in the Middle East and Mediterranean, had anything against sandals with no socks either. 😉

Thanks for the video. I would be great if my parish church have proper church etiquette pamphlets available.
If a video like that were made today, it should at least remind parishioners to:
not leave church bulletins behind in the pews
silence all cell phones
dress modestly
lift up kneelers when done praying

The video is in Ireland, where it tends to be cold. I doubt you’d be seeing many in shorts.

You lost me at sandals (with no socks), though… Who wears sandals with socks???

While I wouldn’t wear shorts to church, it never occurred to me that sandals, with or without socks, could be a problem.

Very good! Some things never change…like Mrs. Armstrong who will only sit at the end of the pew. Other things certainly do change, and sadly there has been a serious decline in the standards of etiquette in church - something which I think needs to be corrected.

It looks to me like it was filmed at St. Kevin’s Oratory, which is attached to Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Dublin.

Very funny, yet I have to say,Still a lot of that going on in my parish and I assume others as well.😳

We do have air conditioned churches and it’s usually cold. Also, it’s not hot all year round, outdoors.

Who wants to see a guy’s hairy legs & yellowing toenails, when you bow your head in church to say your prayers. I didn’t mean socks should be worn with sandals …shoes & socks are appropriate & normal shoes for women.

Do you also comment on someone’s less than perfect teeth if they smile at you in Church? What about those that sit by you with wrinkles, scars, or blemishes? Perhaps you need a safe space while in Church to avoid those that don’t look perfect since apparently you are focused on them during prayer

Hate to see what you’d say about a priest in a Carmelite or Franciscan parish…or a nun. They usually wear sandals and not all wear socks with them.

I have to admit that the “coughing chorus” during the homily almost had me rolling on the floor! :rotfl:

Sadly even in temperate Indiana, USA I regularly see low cut dresses and tops on the ladies and men dressed like they are prepared to go to the beach or do gardening.

This 6-minute video is for everyone who longs for the good ol’ days, when nobody would dare and everyone was filled with reverence and piety. (Sadly, no crying children are featured in this video.)

In my area in those days young children were not commonly brought to Mass and a baby at Mass was a novelty. Parents either went to Mass separately or had someone babysit.

Yeah, but to someone who lives in Florida, anything below 70 degrees requires one to pull out those winter sweaters tucked away in the trunk. 😛

I lived in Florida for ten years, and currently live in Virginia. My wife and I visited my still-in-Florida parents back in February. When we were going to Mass one Sunday, a sweet man talked to our baby, and asked her where her hat was on such a cold morning. If it was below 60, I’d absolutely eat her hat.
