Future of Catholic Church and TLM

Does anyone here think that the TLM will have a greater prominence in the future of the Catholic Church? Is it true that those rumors that once the old Baby Boomers die out that tradition, and the TLM will be making more and more inroads into the Catholic Church?

Yes, I do feel that there’s a change for the TLM, and I support and constantly pray for those who daily celebrate it, for example, ICRSS.

Now if I may speak purely selfishly here, I want it to get to the point where I don’t have to drive past various other parishes to attend the Mass in the Extraordinary Form – e.g. the next one over for me is a three hour roundtrip drive. Considering I’m not all that fond of driving, and especially on a day of rest, this would be sad for me, but I’d do it if I had to. So my hope is that each parish would have one EF Mass.

I’ll admit I’m somewhat angry that this past was taken from me. None of the NO Masses have ever struck me as the EF does. Yes, I know in the past there were abuses in it just as we have now with the NO. But the EF for me – well, there is something more here, something beyond words, touching Heaven. Still I figure God has His reasons for putting me here in this time and place. I am thankful to see… it feels like a new beginning.

I still have my old missal (c. 1959) from grade school and I’m sure the Gregorian Chant masses are still in the frontal lobes of my brain, just waiting to be tapped!

OK, I’m a little sensitive about using the words “die” and “Baby Boomer” in the same sentence…more like paranoid.
I’m only joking, so don’t take this wrong.

I would love to have more TLM. You have no idea how hard it was to go through Vatican II. It nearly destroyed me, so it really is no laughing matter. It did destroy my family in some way. Out of nine of us, two are Catholic-- though we suffered through the 1970’s, '80’s and '90’s-- one is a fundamentalist protestant, one is Quaker, two have no idea what faith is, one is some Buddhist-y something, and one is unsure of anything. One is in heaven with our parents, but he had a difficult time of it too.

It seems it is taking a generation (gives new meaning to “forty years”) to find out what was lost. But I’m not giving up.

I’m a pre-boomer. I think H147etc. is painting with “BROAD BRUSH” but in essence H147etc. is correct. We went to our local NO parish this morning and found a visiting priest. He was an elderly gentleman. And as he started the homily out came the heresy and the total disdain for tradition. Darn near got up and left. All due respect for his years of service but I wondered how many souls he has led to hell. I believe that its this sort of thing that is what is wrong with the church today and it wil only clear up after they go to their reward.

I attend the Divine Liturgy currently. {a traditionalist Catholic refugee]; I haven’t been fortunate like some here to have ever attended the venerable Tridentine Mass; I’ve seen pictures, videos, and read its prayers. This alone combined with my experience with the rather de-catholicised and protestantised Novus Ordo has impacted me greatly. Reading Mortalium Animos and other Papal Encyclicals and Vatican II’s documents were a real eye-opener.

I went from liking VII and thinking it was merely “misinterpetated [which it was]” and thinking Latin and saying the Mass or Sacraments in Latin was “stupid”: to now thinking that VII and the N.O. are both very harmful to the faith: due to the amibuguities [nigh-but-not-quite hereticall amibuguities and vaguries of various passages of VII’s documents.

My conclusion now, given the History of the past 5o years and the recent abrogation of any and all impediments to a priest saying the holy Tridentine Mass: VII and the N.O. ought to be suppressed completely and fully and all its documents associated therewith [and the “CCC”].

The Tridentine Mas would, whilst this is occurring, be fully and completely re-instated as the sole form of the Roman rite for the Latin Church. With the Tridentine Mass being mandated in all Roman seminaries world-wide; with the N.O. being phased out. Do I see this happening: Yes; however, it’ll take about a century to happen completely. But within the next 50 years for sure: we’ll see great strides and gains regarding the access to and spread of the Tridentine Mass.

I long for the return of tradition whether it is in the form of TLM or N.O. or a proer vernacular. I am just one person who lives in the Diocese of Great Falls/Billings, MT and have witnessed some very small changes. Depending upon a persons age, and what one is willing to say in public, there is interest in the TLM, or at least the beauty and spirit filled demeanor of it. I see a few folks, who like myself kneel when accepting Communion on the tongue only, and who carry Latin/English Missals around and pray for change. I have attended local churches (we have 6 Catholic churches including a cathedral where the Bishop says Mass) and have seen the abuses. Recently however, switched lines to the Priest’s line for Communion due to non-priest in the other line (I dissrupted everything and even my son got confused when I switched). It may have been a glitch or Father did not want that to happen again so this week He served Communion to both lines. Now I kneel to receive Communion so I have to let the person behind know to not trip over me or fall forward on top of me, but Father has never said one word to me about it and knows how I feel, and He is trying to hang in there with me. I’ve seen others kneeling at Communion of late. There are those of us who stiIl kneel during Mass right before Communion at the end of the Canon saying “Lord, Im not worthy to receive you but cleanse me from my Sin”, while others stand. I always pray at the beginning of Mass to our Heavenly Father to allow me to be an example. We are all called to Evangelize and this is how one person is led to do so. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
