I saw this on a website and thought about getting one for my youngest son with the idea that it would show that we would be way happy, not to mention humbled, if God called one of our sons to the Priesthood. But now I’m starting to feel like it might not be appropriate. I wouldn’t want it to come across as trivializing the Priesthood.

Thoughts?
Thanks 🙂

(not my son, just a baby model off the site)

For a costume event? Yes. Anything else, no.

I don’t like parents choosing their children’s vocations. It’s the child’s job to determine if God is calling him to the priesthood, not the parents. Even in jest, I don’t care for this–unless it’s used as a costume, (in which case I like it.)

I agree with this. People will put anything on a shirt (or onesie) to make a buck.

Not putting any pressure on your son, are you?😛
lol…not at all… but that’s another way I think ppl might look at it…

My initial fondness for it was b/c I thought it would be a cute way to express how much we treasure our Catholic faith, and to show that we as a family would encourage our
son(s) (we have two boys, one girl), in that vocation if it ever presented itself. My husband thinks it’s just “cute”, but doesn’t really have an opinion on it one way or the other. I just don’t want it to look like I’m poking fun at the Priesthood.

I think it is a cute shirt, but I agree with gardenswithkids. Having a child that gets the calling to be a priest is a great honor and blessing (although I understand how you feel it might not be seen as this by some people and want to encourage it), and not all Catholic boys are called to priesthood, it is not God’s plan for all of them, so I guess that is something else to consider. I like the idea of encouraging it and showing it in a positive light, since I have heard that one big reason that many vocations aren’t being discovered/fulfilled is lack of family support/encouragement.

It’s too bad it doesn’t say “Possible Future Priest” but I guess that would be less funny… I dunno, it’s a cute idea, but it’s a little weird… would you get a ‘lab coat’ onsie that said ‘Future Doctor’? I think most people would see it as you trying to pick your kid’s future for them when they’re a baby… a bit too off-putting for me, imo.

👍 agreed:thumbsup:

I agree with everyone, but I still can’t help but picturing in my mind all the wonderful priests I know wearing this when they were babies!!! How adorable . . . . . 😉

I want one!!! IS there a future nun one too. My good friend has a daughter which she and I are counting on marring my Joseph, 😃 😃 however her husband is sending their little girl to the convent as soon as boys are no longer gross and my DH is sure Joe will be a priest, I think these would make cute fathers day gifts for them.

But I am not sure if it would be worth the $ for a couple of pictures. 🤷😃

I appreciate the replies… You’ve confirmed my gut feeling - I still think it’s cute, but the risk of people misinterpreting is still there, so I’ll pass. Too bad there isn’t one that says, “called to holiness”…that would be funny when they’re at that spastic 2’s-3’s age…oye!

Thanks again. 😉

The 2-3 year olds need one that say “holy terror.”😃
