They are broadcast on BYUTV. It is up to the satellite/cable provider wether or not to carry that station. If not then they can still carry just the conference by running it on another channel.

You can also get it over the internet through LDS.org
Thanks.

BYU has a tv station?!?!?

Like most major universities, Yes.
Guess I’m not “up with the times”. I didn’t know universities had their own tv stations.

The University of Texas TV station has had a very popular show for many years now called Austin city Limits. It’s a country music show and is seen in many countries. Pretty much all universities with communications programs have some type of radio and TV stations to teach students in those fields.

Shows ya how much I know…

Yeah, I’ll join that kind of protest as soon as I see an account of Jesus or the Apostles standing outside the synagogues and yelling at people.

As far as family values, are you aware that the LDS church permits divorce and remarriage, contraception in marriage, and abortion in some cases?
I don’t think they permit it anymore than the Catholic church permits it.
It just happens to be prevalent in today’s society and when a person repents from these sins, who can say they can not be forgiven.
The Catholic Church is having a huge meeting this next week in Rome(I think) and they are discussing the problem of divorce and members who are divorced and remarried, without annulment taking the Eucharist. Also, the problem of Catholic polititians taking the Eurcharist and openly promoting abortion. So I think it could be that it is a problem with the people, not the Church.
Jesus says He will forgive who he chooses to forgive, but we must forgive everyone. So it will really be up to him to judge in the final judgement of things.
God set the rules, if the people do not obey(and they will not always obey)then the final judgement will be the Lord’s, not yours and not mine.

As a return (somewhat) to the original topic…

Are the LDS general conferences broadcasted on “regular” like cable or satellite? Or is there some special package or something one has to have to get them?
Hi Tkdnick,
In our town, Conference was broadcast on Channel 18 from 9AM till 3PM.
You missed it, but there will be another around Easter.

Really?!?!? Gosh, how sad is that that I’m a Catholic and I didn’t even know they were doing this! I believe there is also one coming up to commemorate the end of the Year of the Eucharist (Oct 15).

Channel 18 on what carrier? We have directv and I don’t think there is a channel 18.

I think DirectTV carries BYUTV. In any case you can read the transcripts or download audio and video archives from LDS.org if you are really interested.

It was just the basic cable station, we don’t have any of the fancy stuff. I think channel 18 normally carries public service, or educational programs. They broadcast it from the BYU channel. My mom lives in Portland, Oregon and they only had the Saturday broadcast and were cut off on the Sunday session. The sessions last for 2 hours in the morning and about 1 and a half hours in the afternoon, on Sunday. In between they have the news of the church and of course some of the films made by the church telling about Joseph Smith’s life etc. They told about the 122nd Temple dedication, which was Newport Beach, California, and the 121st was Nigeria, Africa. President Hinckley’s 95th birthday celebration in July 2005, and the fact that the LDS Church was recognized as first responders to the Katrina disaster relief. Just stuff like that filled in the space between conference sessions.
It was very good.
The Sunday newspaper had the article about the Catholic Church holding a Synod this coming weekend I think, and discussing the above mentioned topics. My husband missed it too and when I told him, he went out to the recycle and dug out the paper to read it. I told my daughter today and she said her Catholic husband did not know of it either and he teaches catechism classes at his parish.

I, for one, knew about the Synod. So all is not lost for the Catholic world. 😛

LDS conference talks are also archived and can be viewed or listened to on the Internet from the Church’s website; but you need to have a broadband connection.
