Gamaliel Foundation Deceives Catholic Campaign for Human Development

the Gamaliel Foundation listed its membership with the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) on its own website.

“In 2010, FIRM publically stated its organizational intent to link homosexuality with immigration reform, and as a member, Gamaliel’s voice was added to this public statement” said Michael Hichborn, spokesman for RCN. “We gave this information to CCHD directors, and they began their own investigation.”

“We received several communications from diocesan CCHD directors indicating that National CCHD had a copy of a letter Gamaliel allegedly sent to FIRM in May of 2010, cutting all ties with them,” Hichborn said. “However, upon further investigation, RCN found proof that Gamaliel was still a member of FIRM in 2011 and 2012.”

Contained in the RCN 2012 report are screen captures taken from Gamaliel’s website of several FIRM membership documents dated 2011, as well as meeting minutes from a December 2011 FIRM conference call. The meeting minutes show that Gamaliel’s president participated in the call, and indicate that Gamaliel was nominated for the steering committee for the year 2012.

“Either the letter Gamaliel provided to CCHD was outdated or it was fake,” said Hichborn. “Whatever the case, the Gamaliel Foundation has revealed an apparent willingness to lie in order to keep Catholic funds.”

Looks like another ACORN situation. The question is … what will CCHD do about this?

What I don’t understand is why the CCHD gives money to any organizations other than Catholic organizations.When people donate to CCHD, they think they’re giving money to Catholic charities. But CCHD feels itself free to simply be a conduit of funds that go to all kinds of organizations. Sometimes those organizations act in ways contrary to the teachings of the Church, but a very significant amount of the time, the CCHD contributions go to outfits like ACORN, the purpose of which is to effect political “social change”, a good part of which people would not support if they knew about it.

It isn’t as if there are no Catholic charitable organizations, covents, seminaries, that could use the money.

My own bishop, rightly in my view, discourages donations to CCHD and, each year when the drive is on, encourages donating instead to the diocesan Catholic charities organization, which really is Catholic and really does engage in charitable works.

Looks like another ACORN situation. The question is … what will CCHD do about this?

Nothing…No documented reports or facts or exposes have caused them to reform their funding. They have lost all credibility with us and we will never give them another dime. Our diocese as well, does not publicize this drive and our own pastor encourages us to give to other sources. But KUDOS to ALL for last year’s 212 page report. I still look at it and WEEP over the Catholic money that has gone to all manner of anti-Catholic causes.

Exactly…leftist politics promoting agendas hostile to religion, but really…if Catholics aren’t aware by now of this deception, then there’s not much hope for them. There seems to be syndrome going around…a disconnecting of the faith from politics. Sure hope it isn’t “catching.”

What I don’t understand is why the CCHD gives money to any organizations other than Catholic organizations…

I do not understand this myself, ut when I looked a couple of years ago, that was their intention: to have this drive to fund non-Catholic projects.
