#gamergate is a load of BS. Whatever intention there was to expose rigged scores by an apparent collusion between developers and game journalists has quickly devolved into open and personal attacks against innocent people, mostly women.

The constant stream of repulsive tweets and death threats to Anita Sarkeesian, Brianna Wu, Jenn Frank, Zoey Quinn, etc. has turned the movement into an aggressive campaign of libel and the worst the internet has to offer. The original intention of #gamergate was made irrelevant once a bunch of cowards started posting their critic’s personal addresses, made death and rape threats and warned of public shootings or massacres to try and silence the other point of view. They couldn’t counter the opposing facts presented to them using reasonable debate and logic, so they stooped to using brute force. Consequently, the debate is now quite rightly about misogyny in the tech industry. It’s a testament to the strength of these women that they keep on fighting against almost impossible odds. Who can say the same for their anonymous opponents?

Not sure why you’re quoting my post in your comment, as I was only expressing my support for PrayerShark’s statement on sexism in the video game industry. It was not meant to be a comment on this “gamergate” issue. I don’t even know who Zoe Quinn is.

I only applauded PrayerShark’s post because I myself have experienced sexism in video game culture. Online bullying is a real and serious issue. I have not “fallen” for anything. And so I naturally applaud those who stand up against it. I do not know about these allegations regarding Zoe Quinn.

Anyway, I’m done here and I will be unsubscribing from this thread. This discussion has already become toxic. Please stop responding to my posts and instead address those who have presented actual arguments regarding gamergate.

I’ve read several articles that contradict each other (WaPo, Breitbart, etc), each with a clear bias on one side or the other.

Harvard-- have you found a single source you can trust? Or have you come to the conclusion that you have to read from a lot of sources and be critical/skeptical with all of them?

My friend, the writing is on the wall. When the situation escalates to death threats, rape, mass shootings, publication of personal details then it’s moved beyond simple trolling. If your mind can’t register this as sick and disturbing then you need re-evaluate your outlook on life.

Odd indeed that after decades of demeaning, debasing, and undermining all standards of courtesy, decency, and politeness, the Left now objects to rude and uncouth behavior, and faints as readily as a Victorian matron.
