How do you explain the gaps in the Bible? Like the story of creation? You only hear about Cain and Abel but how did man come into existence if Adam and Eve didn’t have more children so obviously they did. My friend brought up the fact that they were committing what’s now known as incest to develop the human race and make more people. Why was it ok then and wrong now?
I guess what I’m wondering is why are their gaps and no one bothers to explain anything? I went to Catholic school for 12 years and never did they explain why the Bible was so vague and not finishing its story.
Another question, why do we have four writers of the same gospel? They are all a little different so which one is right?

Where the bible is silent, it is silent.

The finish of Scripture is Jesus. It isn’t silent about Him at all.

Which evangelist should you believe when it comes to the written gospel? All of them.

But why is it silent? Silence leads me to doubt and disbelieve sometimes because why can’t we know the whole story? Is there a cover-up going on? See? The gaps lead to unnecessary assumptions.
Why do we have four evangelists and why are their gospels slightly different?

It is silent because it simply is. The bible wasn’t nor isn’t the CNN or Fox news of the day. It was an oral tradition long before it was a written one. Moses (or whoever wrote the two surviving Jewish creation narratives we have saved in Scripture) wasn’t standing there with pen and paper taking notes, “In the beginning …” Moses surely didn’t write about his own death and burial that is recorded at the end of Deuteronomy. There’s a 450 year lapse of time between the end of Genesis and beginning of Exodus. If you want an historical account of earth you have to go well outside of Scripture. The biblical authors were not privy to the goings on outside their sphere of influence. This is the “why” the bible is silent on various things.

We have 4 evangelists telling of Jesus’ earthly ministry because that is the number of accounts the Church in Her wisdom accredited as Sacred Scripture. Their reasoning was to settle on 4 as the winds are also represented by 4, this pointing to the Holy Spirit (Hebrew Ru’ach = wind or Spirit). There were also 4 creatures depicted in Daniel’s visions, which the Church Fathers saw as prophetic to the 4 evangelists. Look at Church Iconography of the evangelists and you will see the same imagery trying in Daniels prophesies. In your wanting a greater vision of world history you’ll have to look far outside the bible, you will also have to look far outside this forum for how the bible was formed.

If the bible contained every detail, imagine how big it would be.

As for the incest thing, as I understand it, the gene pool was not messed up in their day, Adam and Eve’s genes contained all the possiblities of mankind, but latter our gene pools became more messey and requires wider mixing of genes to avoid problems. If you look groups where there is inner marriage family wise there are all kinds of gentic problems.

It makes sense now. 👍
