Cestus as I have asked in the past, please be so kind as to indicate a specific lie or deception that I have posted about anyone. You never replied to that opportunity and probably will not in the future.

As far as the abuse issue goes, when you in the past called me a pervert for bring up the abuse issue, I told you of my direct experiences with the issue. If you think that I have no concerned for the abused, then you know nothing of me and what I know directly about the abuse issue in the US catholic church from a personal standpoint and how the church still treats those that have been abused.

While you continue to attack me and lie about me, I wonder about your motives. What do you get out of it?

I will no longer respond to your attacks. I wish you good health and prompt healing.

Peace
Ri,

Like the Gates of Hell… I don’t believe you are going to prevail here either… I can’t tell exactly your motivation other than to smear a very holy man JPII… why don’t you try something new… forgive, and try to move forward… just a thought… A victim of abuse over 20 years ago, (a priest today) said the only way he could move on was to forgive… He knows that as long as man is attached to the church, sin will be present also… I wish you peace, but i doubt you will find it in this thread… Good Luck 👍

Are you saying that because other religions have abusers, our leadrs have a legitimate excuse for their actions?

Since you have basically little knowledge of me, how do you conclude that I have tunnel vision? I abore all abuse, but since I am catholic, I have a vested intrest in seeing that our church be at the vanguard of cleaning up abuse worldwide.

Am I mistaken in believing that the catholic church is the deposit of truth and that the truth of Jesus included direction regarding children in specific, but in a more general command told the apostles(and the Vatican through apostolic succession) to be servants of the people?

As a catholic I can stick my head in the sand , as the church’s leaders want us to do, or I can advocate that all the leaders of our church act like men of Jesus and not simply as caretakers for the institution.

Peace
Hello RIC, I was thinking that since you only focused on the Catholic Church, that your vision was obscured.(tunnel vision)

I said the opposite, but if it’s a deal, send me your personal e-mail(whatever)

ricatholic,

I think that we are all shocked and outraged at the scandals, but I do not believe the church in anyway condones it now or in the past. Individual bishops have made huge mistakes, and the situation is deplorable. That having been said, we need to temper our 20/20 hindsight with some sad but sobering facts. This sexual crisis is not something that occured in a vacuum, and the similar problems in other churches are a testimony to that fact. Unfortunately, the world is filled with lurid magazines, television shows, books, and motion pictures and it’s getting worse. Satan and the secular world are having tremendous influence on people. The walls and parapets that once protected society from such awful garbage are all but broken down. The culture is thoroughly polluted, and it is polluting Christians and their clergy.

I am not making excuses for abusive priests or the sins of weak bishops, but I do want to point something out. The sexual revolution and the strident over confidence of the psychological and psychiatric communities played a part in this mess. Psychologists and psychiatrists had little knowledge or skill in dealing with sexual abusers, but frequently declared them to no longer be a danger. In the case of priests, it was believed that they could be returned to their duties. Frankly, I think that after one repeat offense, any bishop should have been quite suspicious of any and all declared cures, but that is only my opinion. This is a complex issue that I am not able to address in a short post, but I can recommend a book written by a non-Catholic that is probably the best available study of priestly sexual abuse. It’s a book by Dr. Phillip Jenkins called, "Priests and Pedophilia. He gives an even handed look at the problem from an academic perspective.
