Last night I was in another town so I went to Mass after I finished work.
When I arrived everyone was very friendly…made me feel welcome. Then the priest introduced himself and explained if I was taking communion I needed to go up to this little table at the front and center, take the tongs, pick up a host with it and drop it into a brass cup with handle he called a ciborium. I was confused but did that.
The mass began in the usual way but no one bowed, genuflected or anything when they went to their seats. Then the priest called everyone up to the altar and everyone stood around the altar as he consecrated the hosts and wine. Then we all held hands around the altar and prayed the Lord’s prayer. No kneeling, just standing there. Then he stood off to the side of the altar and we filed around and received. Then we all filed back to our seats, I was shocked.
Is this allowed…I sure didn’t feel like I"d been to mass but the people were very warm and welcoming.
