Today is Gaudete Sunday, otherwise known as Rose Sunday.

So, for the traditionalists out there, what color did your priest wear today?

Violet or Rose?

Mine wore Rose.

As an aside, I went out and bought a rose colored shirt specifically for the day.

My priest wore rose as well. There are two priests at my parish, and they both wore rose.

Violet. Our priest has a rose colored vestment, he wore he last year, but it’s pretty hideous! He probably decided to go with violet because the vestment itself was much more respectable looking.

I’m not what you’d call a traditionalist, but my NO priest wore a lovely chasuble that was an extremely nice shade of rose rather than some of the hideous bright pinks you can get.

I was about to comment that “pink” is not a liturgical color, and that proper rose vestments are ROSE colored, but then I saw that you were talking about the novus ordo; I have no idea what the new rules proscribe – or forbid – when it comes to vestment colors. Hopefully your priest isn’t wearing blue vestments for the other Sundays of Advent…

Of course not! Never in my 34 years seen any priest wearing blue vestments, I’m proud to say, and I think you exaggerate the number of those who do. Although it’s understandable that in the US there’d be more of an influence from those Protestant denominations who DO use blue as a liturgical colour. And also from South America where blue is permitted at times, I believe.

I have seen two churches that do use blue rather than violet in the church decorations - one on the altar cloth itself, sadly.

Father Peter was in violet 👍 for 8am mass and Father Tony was in rose  for 10am mass. I wasn’t able to make noon mass, so I don’t know what color Father Helmut chose. 🤷

Yep here too. Dh and I split Masses and each priest was wearing a lovely chasuble. Obviously the parish owns more than one, or some of the priests have there own, because we say different vestements.

Rose which is a kind of pink. Those opposed to calling it “pink” need to relax. It’s pink, deal with it. Which is kind of what our pastor said.

The rector at my seminary who rose as did the priest at the TLM which I attended later in the morning.
