That’s because violence is in of itself a tool. I certainly won’t zap you if you were just some ye old peasant going about his/her merry way.
I confess, sometimes I try to kill innocents just to see if I can do it. I particularly like when the NPCs yell at me to stop hitting them. Otherwise, I don’t kill people who don’t attack me first.

I recently found that Nexon’s Mabinogi game now provides same-gender marriage.

After seeing this, I had come to the conclusion of leaving all things related to the Nexon company. And I am highly addicted to Nexon’s MapleStory game, which does not contain the same-gender marriage content. But I can not support a company which displays such content for children.

Of course my reasons are more personal than religious. Since I am recovering from homosexual/transgender tendencies.

I don’t know what else do. Its like being a big boxing fan of Mike Tyson, then going to a match and watching him bite the ear off his opponent. Huge slap in the face. To the atheists out there, it’s like when KISS made a disco album.

So I guess I’ll just stick around. Maybe find another neutral gaming company that provides games that aren’t ā€œprogressive.ā€

I wonder if this thread gets to homosexual/trangender arguments. Or is there a designated spot for that. Either way, I’ll just buzz around and try not to bother you guys as I recollect my thoughts.

I don’t think there is a designated spot for such discussions, but I think the bulk of them occur in the Moral Theology forum or the Social Justice forum. The Family Life forum sometimes sees such discussions if involve personal matters.

More generally, here is a post which briefly describes the topics discussed in the different forums here at CAF (Catholic Answers Forums)

BTW, welcome to CAF šŸ‘‹

Hey, just dive in whenever you are ready. We are all a bother to someone at some point. 😃

Sexual actions shown in a video game of any kind are unnecessary, in my opinion. Kissing is one thing but beyond that I’d say definitely no. I don’t really see how it would add to the game play anyways. I am not really a big fan of games where you play as a villain either, especially ones where it includes very heinous crimes.

It really isn’t that hard. Before you let your child play a game, or read a book, or do whatever it is he wants to do, look into it. Look at the rating, look at reviews, look at parents guides online, ask some people who have the game what type of content is in it. Its pretty easy to do. There are simply too many things out there to rely on a one size fits all rating or label. I guess I am just very used to this modern age of media. I rarely rent a movie, buy a game, or book without first looking into it online.

in video games we get to empty a mag from an M16 into a busload of civilians, drop napalm on apartment complexes, poison gas playgrounds, cut people and animals apart with chainsaws and otherwise knife, dismember, bludgeon and or incinerate our fellow man, often times in multiplayer mode.
Now, while the notion of homosexuality being stuffed down my throat through yet another form of media, is something I find ā€œcringe worthyā€ … I have to ask … are your priorities straight here?
I mean really … out of the two sins of blood soaked screaming murder set to maximum gore and same sex amorous interaction, you choose homosexuality to flip out about?

I don’t really think the original poster flipped out. I think he is trying to do a good thing and help parents be aware of what their kids play. I understand that it seems a bit one sided to target sexuality in games without mentioning all the other junk that is out there though.

and junk does abound in them.
I rather like Rocksmith as vid games go.
Im sure some, or most, might pitch a fit about some of the music in and for it, but it does teach guitar. So at least the player comes away with a real skill they can use outside the game. Electric guitars can add an astonishingly beautiful layer to our choirs.
So I guess rather than blasting junk in games, it might be better to find positive ones to recommend

Oh boy, god forbid we are subjected to difference! Do you not want your kids around people of different skin colors too? The world does not revolve around heterosexuals. Sorry.

Someone’s offended…

If gays in games bother you that much, there’s a fix:

  1. *]Press ā€œF12ā€ key to open up the console
*]Enter ā€œYHWHā€ into the console to enter God mode
    *]Enter ā€œGenesis 19:24ā€

Something happens to the homosexual characters and places in the game…but I won’t spoil the cheat šŸ˜›

Oh and some n00bs on the forums have been trolling saying enter ā€œBlasphemeā€ while in God mode…ok to warn you all…unless you want the BSOD, all data wiped out and your PC destroyed…don’t do it!

  1. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I know I shouldn’t be laughing but… this is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time.

And if your system doesn’t accept ā€œGenesis 19:24ā€, then try ā€œLeviticus 18:22ā€, which is an unbeatable cheat code. 😃

I’m nowhere close to being a parent (I’m 21) but I think a lot of the onus falls on parents with regards to what kids are exposed to nowadays. Some parents think that they can let the Internet or video games take care of their kids and be done with it. I find that tragic. I grew up in the '90s with stuff like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro; my brother, who is four years younger, played a lot of Halo in his late elementary years. Now, we had good upbringings but I can definitely see the effects of a violent video game in his disposition; he’s quick to anger. Halo’s rated M so my brother shouldn’t’ve been playing it anyway but it could’ve been worse.

Now, video games are said to have ā€œgrown upā€ a lot in the last ten years. I don’t see it so much as growing up per se but, rather, catching up to the rest of the media forms. Sex, gratuitous violence, homosexuality, various -cides, and the like all exist in forms like movies, television, comic books, novels, etc. Most parents wouldn’t let their kids watch Schindler’s List or Saving Private Ryan (which are good movies in themselves) because they’re well aware of the subject matter. In the same way, parents should be taking an active role in dictating what their kids can and can’t play. I don’t know a lot of kids who can afford a $60-70 video game without the help of their parents.

I’ve played the first two Mass Effect games and both times my character was a straight male. I really enjoyed the games. Yes, the chance to encounter homosexuality exists in modern video gaming but the chance to prevent kids from encountering that exists as well. I’ve played games like Assassin’s Creed where, I kid you not, I had to try to assassinate Pope Alexander IV. Is that a morally wrong concept? I think so. Did I go out and become an anti-papist assassin? No, because 1) it’s just a fictional game, and 2) I was raised to obey the Sixth Commandment. Again, my parents played a role in that.

And, like I said, it could always be worse: you should see how kids trashtalk nowadays on multiplayer games. There is something fundamentally wrong with society’s restrictions when a twelve-year old kid can call me all sorts of homophobic slurs from who-knows-where without his parents reprimanding him. I stopped playing online because I knew that, one day, I was probably going to snap at some kid (who probably didn’t know any better).

Here in Manila, I’ve seen 6-year old kids swear at each other on multiplayer games in the net cafes!

I went back home for the first time when I was about 10/11 and I was astounded at how open the street vendors were at peddling pornographic materials in the middle of the day on Session Road in Baguio.

The swearing situation was so bad, that the net cafe owners have imposed very strict rules. In fact, there are laws here in Manila which prohibit children and teenagers from net cafes during school hours.

I remember I was in Bohol for summer vacation when I was 16 and having the entire net cafe to myself during school hours because of that same law. Being in Canada, that law seems rather restrictive but I see the necessity of it if it’s such a big issue for the youth.

Seeing as I’m in college, that law does not apply to me. šŸ™‚

Does Canada have truancy officers like in the United States? O:

ā€œTruancy officersā€ as in people who ensure kids are going to school? Attendance in my high school was monitored and skipping class was discouraged but nobody checks up on you if you’re skipping class in university.

Yes, the very same types. o:

As far as the laws regarding net cafes are concerned, I do think that truancy officers tend to do the job well as far as keeping kids from net cafes during school hours in the West. Here in the Philippines, laws and rules regarding net cafes tends to do the job well. šŸ™‚

Back to the thread.
I do think that there are games made like today’s comedy and horror - filled with shock content rather than any actual substance. At least fighting games like the Tekken series have an actual storyline, plot and character development not to mention tons of action.
