Gay couples to be allowed civil ceremonies in church

Homosexual couples will be able to take part in civil partnerships in church and other places of worship from next month, it will be announced.

Lynne Featherstone, the equalities minister, will say that the ban on the ceremonies in religious surroundings will be lifted on Dec 5. The move has been championed by David Cameron but is likely to be opposed by some church groups.

The scheme will be “voluntary” with no church compelled to offer same-sex services. However, it is likely that some campaigners will seek to push the matter further if churches refuse to open their doors to gay couples.

I’m currently writing* my last ever exam for my Honours degree in Philosophy. Funnily enough, I am writing on human rights. After reading a ton of papers on this, from legal philosophy, to political philosophy, to philosophy philosophy… let me tell ya - the future doesn’t look bright and my silly comment above may become reality. There are ways, pretty easy ways actually, to justify a non-violent persecution of Catholics, and especially of their religious freedom. I am sure you are aware of that, though.

Then churches must not perform civil marriages. Civil marriage in the magistrate’s office, and religious marriage in church. A religious marriage depends on the rules of the religion. No-one has thus far successfully sued for not receiving the Eucharist without confession or First Communion. Imagine the discrimination of not being able to get the Eucharist without having gone to First Communion, first.

But if some churches want to run a side business of offering traditional, religious looking weddings for couples entering secular civil marriages, well that may be regulated by the secular authorities.

There is but One Church and there is the CC. There is no other churches. If these Bible people want to do this, it is their problem and not ours. Lets hope that the One Holy and only Church of God, none of our leaders will cave in to such abomination.

Tenovir, CP is distinct from civil marriage over here. The article relates to civil partnership and not to current legal form of marriage where religious and/or civic ceremonies are already permitted. Prior to current changes in legislation, CP had access only to the secular.

The amendment now runs alongside current gay lobby campaign and government’s proposal to redefine marriage to include same sex unions, which CaMoron & Co. “assures” would be an entirely secular matter and with provisions imposing a total ban on religious elements. However, one needs only to refer to similar government undertakings when civil partnership was being debated in Parliament. The government has now breached those undertakings and the same is expected in future, if and when marriage is redefined, because the gay lobby will not settle for inconsistent results.

I wish it were as simple as that. Unfortunately, the nod and a wink game played by the gay lobby, government and non-Catholic communities who have rendered to Caesar what are God’s, will affect the orthodox faith communities over here. Lucky you and definitely much better off. I drafted mine a million years ago by longhand and bashed away on a typewriter for final copy. Good luck on your exams.
