I said “individualism” not “individual”. IndividualISM (note the ISM) is not a mode of Catholic thought. We are all in this together, therefore we all responsible for helping to correct each other and to follow more closely the teachings of the Christ and His Church.First of all, I love the name Brendan – it’s also the name of one of our grandsons!
I don’t know who makes the decisions about who “has a place in the Church,” but unless you are my parish priest (at least,) I don’t think it’s you, Brendan.
Why not, it is true after all. God is Love and God is Truth, the two cannot be seperated. Telling someone that actions they perform are putting their immortal soul in jeporday IS a loving act. In fact, as I mentioned before, it is actually a Spiritual Work of Mercy.Maybe I’m wrong – but I just don’t think it’s my right or duty to go up to gay couples and inform them they are in danger of not receiving the gift of eternal life. I think that is neither loving nor Christian.
Christ ate and drank with sinners, and He deeply Loved them. But at no point did He ever affirm their sin. In fact, He did the opposite, He pointed it out to them so that they could percieve it as sin and repent.
You mentioned the part about casting Stones. But remember how Christ ended the story, he told the sinner to “Go and sin no more”. We are called to be Christ like in that respect too, to tell those who are in sin that they should sin no more.
