Yup. One thing i think Catholics and Christians should do,is instead of using hateful terms and such is to preach love.

Like the person in this video says,to preach love. I think most people who call gay people the british slang term for cigarette that is also offensive to gay people don’t know of the hurt it causes them. If people want to win people over to God,then they should show love and not hate.

Love and fluffy respect are two completely different things.

Our town
is arranging - its first - ‘gay pride’ event ( there’s going to be more in the making?)
with the backing - of our local council; ( be careful who you vote for )

and there seems to be little we can do to oppose it.
"The event " - will happen -
on the green
across the road from our church.

( where else would they pick, to a rough motorcycle bar ?)

The council have said - we could have - ‘a stall’ at the event.
We would be ‘allowed’ to talk about the benefits of marriage for life,

but we would NOT BE allowed to talk
about what we ( God Fearing citizens ) are against.

Whatever stance we ‘might’ take,…
seems fraught with … dangers and confrontation. ( Gee, wonder why - lol )

Seems like the norm - to me.
I admire your concern - and courage.
These events sometime have grown men walking around in ‘speedos’ ( ? )

I get how you feel. But I think it best to pray and remain peaceful. If you want to oppose it think carefully about how it is going to be perceived by the rest of the town and if it is for the good of the Church in the long run or just an angry prideful response and do so prayerfully. None of us can really advise you on this as we aren’t there and don’t know your town and people. But sometimes opposition is difficult to portray as gentle and loving. But of course one doesn’t want to sit back and do nothing. Difficult decision. God bless you.
In my city it happens every year and is massive, in fact there is a whole area (like China town or Spanish harlem etc. ) where people of SSA live. The city is know for it yet in between all that God puts his grace and great things happen. I think praying is a good thing, maybe get a lot of people together to pray the rosary, Our Lady is ever helpful in all situations and gentle. She is of course along with St Joseph the perfect example of marriage and of celibacy. God bless you with whatever you do. Being surrounded by this ever growing acceptance in the world of blatant sin is very challenging. I’ll pray for your town too

As a bisexual person that has been around this sort of thing, I would tell you that this is not the time to engage people with your beliefs. It is usually a highly charged event and having a booth would only lead to disagreeable confrontations that could become dangerous. Best thing to do since it is across from your church is pray the Rosary during the event, no banners, maybe offer refreshments outside in the name of the Lord. No judgments…no preaching…just pure love. My parish prints in their bulletin every week that marriage is between one man and one woman in bold print. My priest talks against homosexuality. Neither one offend me because they do it all lovingly. Makes me uncomfortable…yes…Offend…no. This is inside the church, though. Usually a sinner already knows what they are doing is wrong. They need help overcoming it…not to be judged. Leave that to God.

Jesus spells out clearly how to please God: love your neighbor as yourself. Saying you are sick of dealing with people doesn’t give you a pass. I’m sick of serving the poor. I am sick of having to visit prisoners. I am sick of loving those who despise me…

I say set up a booth that gives out free water bottles and pray for every person who takes one.

And have custom labels that say God Loves You! Maybe add your church or organization info if they want to know more.

The most effective evangelization is personal. You can achieve so much with love.

Maybe there’s a way for devout gay people in the Church to be Eucharistic ministers, or Lectors? As long as they are true to the faith? Celibate?

Devout gay people? Those two terms don’t match…devout/gay…

Maybe better to say someone struggling with the Temptations of same sex attraction. Gay means they are not struggling but are purposely giving into same sex attraction.

No it doesn’t. Gay means gay. Homosexual. It doesn’t refer to activity.

You know, it occurred to me that a lot of these protest groups might be made up of people who have nothing else to do. It’s something their friends might see as an after school activity, and will go with them?

Yes it does homosexuality is a sin. People that have trouble with same sex attraction are not homosexual, they are sinners fighting against a disorder or a temptation. We don’t call someone struggling with having thoughts of adultery an adulterer unless they give in to the thoughts or commit adultary.

My post didn’t address the morality of homosexual behavior one way or the other.

Gay= homosexual. Straight=heterosexual. Would you say that, across the board, straight people are all sinners because they engage in heterosexual activity? Of course not. Why? Because many may not be engaging in any sexual activity at all. You can’t tell, based on the description of “straight” just as you can’t tell by the description of “gay”.

This discussion seems to be present a lot on this forum and still there is so much confusion about this. If you are talking about “gay peole who engage in homosexual activity”, then that is what you have to say. By just referring to someone who is “gay”, it doesn’t imply anything about the status of whether or not they are sexually active.

I’ve never heard of gay person without ssa. I have never met a person with ssa that wasn’t gay.

The two are interchangeable.

It sounds like semantics are covering for hostility.

I disagree with this and the poster the holy spirit.

One is not gay because they struggle with same sex attraction. To put that label on someone is to identify them as someone they are not. They are a child of God, they are not gay or homosexual. If you label them with those terms you aggrevate their true identity and call them something they are not, and possibly lead them down the wrong path.

If someone is struggling with ssa, join the club of everyone that has to deal with sin and temptation. The people with the bad agenda like to blow it out of proportion to normalize homosexuality.

You are using two different definitions. You are using SSA to identify a homosexual who isn’t sexually active. You are using “Gay” to describe someone who is homosexual and who is also sexually active.

I guess I don’t see the need for it since it isn’t my business who is sexually active and who isn’t.

I would suggest you may wish to look up the true definition of the word “homosexual”. You seem to be getting stuck on that.

ETA: I am not trying to be difficult. It is just that when people use SSA instead of Gay, and mainstream society uses “Gay”, it causes a lot of confusion. It makes it sound like you are condemning someone just for be attracted to someone of their own sex. It sort of puts you in a bad light, and that is a shame. I don’t think that is where you deserve to be.

People who have an attraction to members of the same sex are sinners? Homosexuals are not people with an attraction to the same sex? Gay people, by definition, have had sex with a member of their own sex?

It’s kinda neat when you get to set your own definitions to commonly accepted terms. But it will, I guarantee you, lead to confusion. Best to get with the program. If we’re all on the same page we can discuss things like adults.

I’m not only talking about sexual activity, although that too.
I’m talking about identity. You are saying that someone struggling with ssa should be called a homosexual and a gay, I say that’s misleading and dangerous. A homosexual is also one that gives into his inclinations, not that he has them, but to the inclinations themselves.

This is false. A homosexual is someone who is same sex attracted. It is the same thing.
