See, that’s what I mean. That wasn’t always the case with regards to non-whites or women. They had to amend the Constitution to ensure that those people’s rights were respected.
Right. Homosexuals too can not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color or previous condition of servitude, like the rest of us. You don’t like blonds? How about laws protecting the rights of ugly people? Short people? Those who openly prefer sex with animals?

Taking the hate crimes issue out of it, just focus on the bullying. SSA individuals have been fiercely bullied in schools. Sometimes it even leads to self-harm or suicide, as bullying can do. I work in a school, I know.
Note that there is a* direct* correlation with acceptance of homosexuality and increase in suicide. Yes, we need to make bullying unacceptable, but if can not be done by increase acceptance of homosexuality unless we want suicides also to go up.

This wasn’t the topic. The topic was that of hospital visitation. There are lots of nurses that I know and we have discussed this, all the hospitals they work for do not have a gay test you have to pass prior to visiting. The rules are generally that visitation be limited to a certain time and sometimes no more than a certain number of visitors at one time.

As far as making emergency medical decisions goes, yes, I believe anyone should be able to appoint a person of their choosing to make those decisions for them. As far as I know we currently have legal provisions that allow for this. Are there some rules that disallow gays from using the same legal provisions? I doubt it.

Are we to allow anyone who claims to be romantically involved with someone to make their emergency medical decisions? I have to say that most parents wouldn’t want some 18 year old girl they’ve never met making the emergency medical decisions for their 18 year old son in college should he need emergency medical treatment solely based on her claim of being his girlfriend.

No, I don’t think it is scumbaggy to do what is in the best interest of your business. I don’t care if it is based on race or gender either. There are some jobs where you may want a man, or a woman, or even a person with a certain look. No one ever goes on the warpath against strip clubs or Hooters for not hiring fat old bald men. Why not? Why is it ok for them to discriminate based on gender, waist line, and bust size?

Ok, so what? It’s always bad to bully people, and I’m entirely against it. It’s already against the rules to bully gay kids. Can you provide an example of a rule saying it is ok to bully gays, have at it, we think it’s funny? Why should someone be punished more severely if they bully a gay kid than a straight kid? Are gays just too precious to be allowed to be bullied at all, but straight kids are a dime a dozen, go ahead and whip the tar out of that scrawny one over there?
Well said! Amen!

I want to reply to a whole bunch of other stuff here but this one stood out for me.

Are you suggesting that society’s increasing “acceptance” of homosexuals is causing homosexuals to commit suicide? Why would that be the case?

I think we all agree that homosexuality is becoming more acceptable. It appears more in movies and television, many states are granting special rights that was unheard of fifty years ago. Yet we also see teen suicide rising at an alarming rate. We can blame it on bullying, yet we know bullying is nothing new.

Obviously what we are doing isn’t working. This is my theory on why, though the “what” seems clear. I believe that many young people are drawn to be homosexual activities that years ago never would have. Then they keep getting told that this sin is just a choice. We all have the law of God written in our hearts, even if society helps us drown that law out. I think the depression that results is a spiritual dissonance between what young people are taught and what they know deep down.

What the world needs today is the same thing that they have always needed. They need the gospel. In making sin acceptable, we give no hope for redemption. Even being trapped in the guilt of sin can be faced when we understand the unlimited mercy of God.

In TS Eliot’s “The Cocktail Party” one character hopes that the psychiatrist can tell her she is insane. This suprises the doctor, but he is told that as long as she is crazy then there is hope for a cure, but if she is okay, then the world is crazy and she just couldn’t live with that.

This is what I think underlies teen suicide increase. We do not need to tell kids their are sinners, but we need to quit telling them they are okay and give them the Gospel.

👍

I think it should be noted that all those blank white spots does not mean that homosexuals do not have rights in those areas. It only means that they do not have special rights for being homosexual spelled out in law. If I did a chart for blonds, it would be all white. That does not mean that blonds have no civil rights.
So is it safe to assume that brunettes, redheads and shaved heads would have the same rights as well?

I thought almond eyes were considered an attractive characteristic. 🙂
It depends, I guess, on a number of things, including whether one has almond eyes and is, say, a Filipina or a northern Italian. I can imagine somewhere or other being Asian might expose one to teasing. But that isn’t necessarily true, particularly if, say, the person is a female Asian and is a knockout. In one of my daughters’ class in high school there was a girl of Filipino origin who was beautiful, and a boy of the same extraction who was a football hero. NOBODY gave either of them a rough time. Both were extremely popular.

A very interesting take on it. Very.

I am not a homo-phobe, but I strongly feel that civil rights based on sexual preference is ludicrous.
Homosexuals already have de facto preferential treatment in most communities in the USA.
Just take a look at the proliferation of gay bars around the country. These places exist more for assignation than for social contact. By the same token, if you had such a bar open for straight people, the local police would quickly shut it down as being a threat to the moral standards of the community!
Also, in many communities, you have certain areas-especially in public parks- where homosexuals “cruise” for sexual contacts at night. These areas are usually well known-at least amongst young men. If a similar thing existed for straight persons, again the police would shut it down and arrest everyone in sight for prostitution or at least “disorderly conduct”. Again, Gays get left alone.
It is well known that in many communities, Turkish, or Steam Baths are little more than gay brothels in many cases. Remember the spopular song “YMCA” by The Village People?..They are rarely bothered by the local police, yet how often do you read that the local “Massage Parlour” was raided for prostitution?. …and don’t tell me that the perps in one are not paid but they are in the other!
This whole thing about gay “civil rights” is nothing but a monumental propaganda effort on the part of political and social progressives to gain acceptance of sexual abberation by society, so the individuals doing these acts can assuage their guilty consciences.
The truth is, homosexuals may be tolerated in today’s sexually liberated society, but iot will be a cold day in hell before they are accepted by it.
What all the broo ha ha ers seem not to know is that sexual morality in Western Society operates like a pendulum. In one era one will have rampant Libertineism followed by a period of Puritanism. There was rampant sexual licenciousness in the England of the 1600’s. The Puritans rebelled against this and came to N. America in 1621. Their morality pre-dominated until the early 1700’s, after which licenciousness reared its head in the American Colonies, followed by the Victorian Era of public Puritanism up to the 1950’s, followed by what we have today. It is only a matter of time before the pendulum swings again.
