Gene Scott?

Ok, so re-runs of the “pastor” Gene Scott program (and what I suppose are new episodes done by his widow) are on my TV constantly.

I have watched other “pastors” like Mr. Hinn and others with amusement in the past, so I tried watching Mr. Scott. It makes my brain hurt. It’s also like the world’s longest run-on sentence.

Can someone summarize his theology? I’ve given up actually getting it from one of these freak-show TV episodes. In the episode tonite, it sounded for a bit like he may have sympathy for Arianism, but them he took off on a tangent into the Old Testament. Does any one know what this kook actually believes?

I believe he died some years ago. If you do a Google search, you can find more than you ever wanted to know about him. His second wife runs the ministry now. He used to be on late night TV in the nineties and spent a lot of his time screaming about how his supporters weren’t sending him enough money. Those thoroughbred horses cost plenty, don’t you know.

I was intrigued by his apparent knowledge of Hebrew, but his almost constant reference to it made me feel that he was beating me up with it. Normally, a translation is a good approximation to get the drift, but his messy marker boards were driving me nuts, too.

He had a certain fire-and-brimstone demeanor, and I wanted to understand what he was saying, what the Bible was saying.

He lost me though. I don’t think scripture was meant to be over everybody’s head, almost to the point of being gnostic in emphasis of special knowledge.

Dr. Scott died in 2005, in LA where I live. His rebroadcasts generally are on Romans, and Ephesians, focusing on 'justification without the works of the law", generally purely Lutheran message, although he never seems to admit to it. He is a little heavy on the chalkboard, and after a while I get lost. He seems to indicate his parishioners speak Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, and Aramaic. Generally knows his stuff.

His widow has taken over, and it is hard to figure out where she learned everything, since she admits to no schooling. She is rapid fire, and runs off on tangents very easily.

In LA, they are better to watch than TBN, and Benny Hinn and such faith healers and prosperity preachers.
