I read in the archives of discussion on whether Generational healing or Healing the family tree can be truly Catholic. I cannot understand why the question could be asked. We have always prayed for the Holy Souls. Generational Healing is about praying for members of our family who may not have had the Grace of a Requiem Mass & may not have been in a state of Grace when they died -possibly those who died a sudden death, in war, drowning, car crash etc. They may have died unreconciled with God or their families. Before we can accept that we can still pray for them we must accept that with God there is no time. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is all powerful & not under the constraints of time of this world so if we pray for people who have died (or who have still to be born) God can give them the benefit of these prayers when they were still alive.
I suspect that the real complaint people have is not the prayers but the suggestion that sometimes through generational healing prayers healings take place in people alive today. They say Baptism takes away all evil so the dead cannot affect the living and God would not punish someone for something that happened to their ancestors. I agree completely despite the words of the Bible that the sins of the fathers will be visited even on the 3rd & 4th generations. I believe the sins of the fathers are visited on the children not to make the children miserable but to make them aware of the sins of the fathers so that by the childrens prayers the fathers can be set free. When they are set free all things coming down through the blood line is cut off. People are set free from curses addictions even cancer. Praying for the ancestors should of course not be dependent on a healing taking place but you will be amazed at how often it does take place
