Does your priest say the whole book of Genesis is myth or just the creation story? There are a lot of studies in archeology about many parts of Genesis: The story of Jacob and Esau, The story of Joseph. Many archeologists believe Noah’s Ark is on Mount Ararat. There was even archeology studies on the Garden of Eden. To say the book of Genesis is just poetry is wrong. Too much science to confirm parts of the book already to say its all myth. If you get a chance, check out the HistoryChanel.com and search for Garden of Eden, Noah’s Ark, and the other stories of Genesis. That’s only one place, there are many books on the subjects too, but the names escape me at the moment.

Sofar we’ve only gotten as far as the Creation story and Adam and Eve and the fall of Man.
Next week we’ll be going on to Noah and the flood.
I agree with you on the studies. I remember watching something on TV a few years ago regarding Noah’s ark being on Mount Ararat. I will check out the History channel as well. I did order the book “In the beginning…” by Our Holy Father.
Can’t wait to read it.🙂

thank you all for your wonderful replies. My heart and spirit are rising. I am praying about all this as well.
I’ll keep you posted as to how things continue.🙂

i believe that the people from Abraham forward were literal in the sens of generations in time removed from Jesus–before Abraham there could have been gaps between the progression of speed of time between Genesis and literal time.

In otherwords I do believe in a literal Adam and Eve–I don’t believe they are just a small number of generations removed from Jesus however.

You can believe in evolution, a literal Adam and Eve–that some of Genesis is literally true–and some of it is allegorical–it needn’t be an either/or situation.

I am interested in what your priest teaches next. I have studied Genesis and the OT and find it interesting.

And by the way, you don’t have to have a problem with evolution. As long as you relize God has His hand in creation from beginning to end and nothing is random.

God’s peace.
