I didn’t say I accepted the theory of evolution regarding humans. Physical death clearly entered the world for plants and animals prior to the fall of mankind. We fill up our gas tanks as a result of it. Animals and plants do not have eternal souls, never did as far I can see from scripture or Church teaching. The “tree of life” was meant for humankind. If you want to believe that no plant or animal died before the fall of man, you go right ahead. I believe you truly short change the masterful plan of God… were it not for the explosion of plant and animal life millions of years ago and their subsequent deaths, we would not have had a major fuel supply that saw us through until our God-given technology comes up with something else.By accepting the theory of evilution, you accept the idea that death occured prior to sin and that does not make sense, since the penalty for sin was death.
p.s. I have one other ??. What does it mean theat you ‘catholics’ are “required” to believe something. Isn’t the whole idea of faith based on the evidence of things not seen ???
***‘Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, l so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.’ *** Heb 11:1-3
Have a nice day !!
Of course, I do not discount the possibility that God decided to create everything in 6 human days (though scripture clearly tells us that a day to God is like a thousand years- a term which in Jewish idiom which means " a really long time"). With God all things are possible, but the Bible does not say that each of these days were human days, does it?? It just says “days” and I choose to believe that it is referring to one of God’s days.
What I mean by “required belief” is that if you do not believe in official teachings of the Church than you are being disobedient to the Church that Jesus founded. Let me put it this way, if you want to claim you are a Christian, isn’t it required that you believe that Jesus is our Savior, the Son of God? Which, by the way, is another required belief of the Catholic Church. I was simply saying there are teachings we must believe in order to call ourselves Catholic, there are teachings you must believe in order to call yourself a Christian.
