Is your source the link you provided? If so, it;s outdated. Do you have anything more recent than the article CEM5 linked, dated Aug. 2010 which states this?Important to remember - the age is based on what they believe is the molecular clock rate.
Two things to consider:
- We now know MtDNA can be passed through father
From what I hear, it is expected that some “Neanderthal” genes will be found in African samples. Obviously, Adam’s descendants migrated across the globe. This would mean pre-neanderthal, if there was a split. Or else, the African line of homo-sapien is not descended from Adam and Eve.
It’s still somewhat outdated.
Once something is discovered is it required to have fresh research done every year? It stands till overturned. You have something to overturn it then post it.It’s still somewhat outdated.
So much for the explanation crom Buffalo that stated: <<<<<<<<< Neandertals are human. We bred with them so they are the same species, unless we want to change the definition of species. >>>>>>>There is no “one” definition of “species”. Polar bears and Grizzly bears are separate “species”, yet they interbreed.

This is the same basis that the article I posted refutes. We now know the molecular clock is not constant. It varies. Mutation rates vary. The assumption is wrong and then mix in paternal inheritance. This date will change.

Thanks. All of your questions are answered here – I hope.
A link to the article CEM5 posted was written in 2010. The article you linked us to was written in 1998, twelve years earlier. Presumably, information in the more recent article would be more accurate in terms of current scientific thought. This is the same basis that the article I posted refutes. We now know the molecular clock is not constant. It varies. Mutation rates vary. The assumption is wrong and then mix in paternal inheritance. This date will change.
Polar bear: Ursus maritimus.Polar bears and grizzlies are the same species with different adaptations.
Then how in the world did we all end up with Neanderthal DNA?For the record,
with respect for the current ban on evolution discussion,
I do not believe that Adam and Eve founded the Neanderthal species.
I believe that Adam and Eve founded the sacred human species in the same manner as taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition.
Yes, but will the CC ever allow it?If we quote theology pre-Darwin, it is complicated to answer and many things ar dubious. It is the same thing as quoting theology pre-Galileo to solve problems post-Galileo.
God, through Darwin, revealed things we l did not know. We must re-think What the great theologians of the past reflected on the light of the new God-given findings.
So how do you reconcile our having Neanderthal DNA with Adam and Eve, who we’re taught are the first humans, made in the image of God, whom we’re all related to?Another link to read about this Lagar Velho child:

For myself, I recall the Biblical story of how God caused our human race to spread out to the other parts of the world, and this is how the separate nations and languages evolved. It fits in with science as well. So, we humans came from one family, spread out, separated into our individual races/traits, (and because our DNA alleles do mutate, we became “different” in appearance and bone structure, due to natural selection/mutations), then we met up again, and as humans have always done, interbred. We still mingle our DNA!!
Anyways, those are my thoughts on why we have differences which don’t really conflict with the Bible or science.
CatholicIllini posted an interesting theory on a different thread:So how do you reconcile our having Neanderthal DNA with Adam and Eve, who we’re taught are the first humans, made in the image of God, whom we’re all related to?
From our faith we know that, at some point, God decided that man had evolved enough for a soul. After millions of years, an organism finally reached the evolutionary threshold at which God deemed it worthy of possessing an immortal soul. Perhaps this was 50,000 years ago, when modern scientists claim that behaviorally modern humans emerged; it may have been 200,000 years ago when the first homo sapiens appeared - we do not know. At first, he may have deemed only one human worthy of a soul (Adam), or he may have given souls to many humans containing certain genetic and behavioral characteristics.
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=607268-]{However, evolution itself suggests that someone had to be the first human.}/-] If we accept the theory of gradual evolution, there still has to be a point at which an organism goes from non-human to human. Perhaps the parents of the first human were themselves non-human, but when their genetic material was combined the resulting offspring was a human. The genetic mutation that differentiated the first man from his parents might have been a small one, but that does not mean it was an insignificant one. It may have been that one mutation that made God see that man as fit to be the first true soul-possessing human-being. And if that man existed 50,000 – 200,000 years ago, it is plausible that we are all descendants of him.
