My church hosts a musical concert in the sanctuary every so often. When I attend is it still proper form to genuflect upon entering the pew even though it is a secular event? I feel like it is, because I am before the Tabernacle. Thoughts? And thanks!

If the tabernacle is there and Christ is present, then yes, you should genuflect if you are able.

You may also view every activity, all time spent in the Sanctuary as a form of Holy Hour. Taken in that light, it might just make the events more spiritually rewarding.

Likewise, one may also genuflect to the altar, as many (all?) have a first class relic of a Saint (the parish patron) in the altar stone.

It’s always a good thing to genuflect. It is God’s house. We kneel before God.

If it is a secular event, such a concert, it is probably best for the Blessed Sacrament to be removed.

If the lamp is lit, then genuflect before the Presence, regardless of what is going on or not going on in the church. If the the lamp is dark or the tabernacle open and empty, then there is nothing to genuflect to, so bow to the altar.
