What have the Bishops of England mandated as reverence before receiving Communion? In the US it’s a bow before you get to the priest to receive the Host. Nothing more before receiving the Precious Blood.
GIRM 160 says you bow both times:When receiving Holy Communion,
the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand, at the discretion of each communicant. When Holy Communion is received under both kinds,
the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood.
By the way, for the OP, the same section of the GIRM says:The norm for reception of Holy Communion in the dioceses of the United States is standing.
Communicants should not be denied Holy Communion because they kneel. Rather, such instances should be addressed pastorally, by providing the faithful with proper catechesis on the reasons for this norm.
And you needn’t fear that you are being disobedient by preferring to kneel instead of stand for Holy Communion. The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments “considers any
refusal of Holy Communion to a member of the faithful on the basis of his or her kneeling posture to be a grave violation of one of the most basic rights of the Christian faithful”. (
source) The same Congregation “has approved of legislation denoting standing as the posture for Holy Communion” in the dioceses of the United States “with the stipulation that
communicants who choose to kneel are not to be denied Holy Communion on these grounds.” (
source) Furthermore, “
the faithful should not be imposed upon nor accused of disobedience and of acting illicitly when they kneel to receive Holy Communion”. (

However, I wouldn’t suggest kneeling if you are going to receive from the Chalice, because I can envision accidents occurring with the Precious Blood spilling.
