Im not sure if this is in the right section or not but it is just a quick question.

If there is a crucifix (outside of church) should you genuflect/make the sign of the cross/ profound bow, ect?

Thanks and God Bless šŸ™‚

One is not obliged to do anything.

One may though give some sign of love and reverence like a bow…

(One Good Friday and Holy Saturday - one genuflects when passing before the crucifix in the Church).

Although, if I am walking down a street and I pass a Catholic Church I make the sign of the cross, or bow my head to the Presence of the Eucharist (Our Lord Jesus Christ) in the tabernacle. I have done this without even going inside, due to time constraints.

I do the same thing when driving by, my Mom taught us that many years ago. I also say the ā€˜Eternal Rest’ prayer when I pass a cemetery. I say a Hail Mary when I hear an ambulance. I bow my head whenever someone uses Our Lord’s name in vain. God Bless, Memaw

Probably until after the dissident hijacking of the ā€œteachingsā€ of Vatican II, it was customary for Catholics to bow their heads at the name of Jesus whenever His name is mentioned. You can still see some older Catholics do it during the Hail Mary.

I do this, too, whenever I pass a Catholic church: bow my head in reverence to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament! šŸ‘ šŸ™‚
