Genuflecting

At my church (EF) we genuflect before the crucifix while it is in procession and bow before the priest. I have only been to one other church where this is the custom. At other EF Masses most either bow before the crucifix or do nothing at all. I have not been able to find any information that genuflecting was the norm before Vatican II, only that bowing before the crucifix and priest was normal. I also genuflect before the cross in procession when I attend NO Masses as well. Does anyone else do this at their church? I will say that I attend Mass at an Oratory of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

I believe it is only proper to genuflect (on the right knee) before the tabernacle containing the Blessed Sacrament.

It was the custom in the United States prior to the modern innovations to genuflect on both knees before the exposed Blessed Sacrament, and on the left knee when kissing the Bishop’s (relic) ring.

The only time I know of where one would genuflect to the cross in the absence of the Blessed Sacrament would be during veneration of the cross on Good Friday.

Wherever I go for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament I see people genuflecting on both knees when they arrive, and again before they leave.

This has not changed. It was like this before VII, and after as well.

Yes, I see that too. But… I am specifically talking about during the procession and recessional. We genuflect briefly on one knee as the crucifix passes. Does no other church do this for EF Masses?

I have seen some individuals do this, but not everybody in attendance.

I genuflect before the Cross in both procession and recession regardless of the Form of the Mass I am attending. I do bow towards the priest in procesion and recession as well. I do not see this very much in my travels but it is out there.
