What if one of His own stole it? Would the Talpiot location have been known to the masses and would everybody have known He hadn’t risen?
I should’ve written one of His own or pranksters or someone not mentioned in the Bible.

Many things are possible but there’s only one plausible explanation: Jesus DID resurrect after His death. Improbable but the only way all the facts come together. Not sure of your fascination with this conspiracy theory that one of Jesus’ followers decided to steal His body then put it back in a grave with other bodies and mark it “Jesus was here.”

I returned to the faith 9 years ago after a 24 year absence. My faith is very important to me but I worry about these things. I have OCD, which makes it worse, I guess.🤷

Sounds like you and I walk parallel roads to Christ! One thing I’ve learned the hard way, submit to God in everything you do. That’s so hard when you’re a control freak like I was. I had to learn to trust in God explicitly and to truly believe “Thy Will be done.” May the Holy Spirit guide you to accept this as well. God Bless you! 👍

The point is, that the tomb would have to have been well know, because it was still known enough to bury the other people (wife and son) at some later date.

Thank you.

GEddie? Thoughts?
‘One of his own’ wouldn’t do it.

Think about it. Your best friend ever was a) dead, b) killed by the State; c) guarded by a Roman squad or a Sadduccean guard detail, and d) as a result of what happened to Him you were e) frightened half-out of your skin and consumed with grief.

Would you then risk your neck to add insult to injury by violating His tomb to drag His (heavy and bloody dead) body around to another location? What for?

And would you then die for a resurrection story you knew to be false rather than own up to the truth?

Any unnamed prankster would not risk his neck, then sacrifice his hora quarta of fame by not spilling the beans.

What about a prankster?

What’s a hora quarta?

If a prankster did it and if Jesus and His family were buried in Talpiot, would the public know about it so that Christianity couldn’t have grown?

Hora quarta = quarter hour, ie, “fifteen minutes of fame”.

Think about it: if this had happened, obviously his family knew about it, because they knew to place His wife and kid there decades later.

Being all pious Jews, would they have allowed a deception surrounding His resurrection to grow like a snowball when it was causing discord and violence and they knew the truth?

Probably not, but would the public have known where He was?

If you mean the Jewish community, why would they care? There were other Jews who were killed and buried every day. If you don’t believe in Jesus the Christ, what makes His death any more significant than any other death?

Ok, so the idea is that He somehow survived the cross or never went there, then died a natural human death after having a family.

There would then have been no Resurrection and no faith built up around it. Men did rarely survive the cross, but no-one would confuse the slow recovery of a bloody, half-dead man with a resurrection.

The Resurrection was the core of the faith, such that S. Paul said he was on trial because of it. This is not the narrative of a natural survival or of somehow escaping the cross.

If He had gone to the cross, not risen again, and later his wife and child joined Him in the tomb, yes, the Romans would have produced His body, long before the wife and child died.

OK, how do you explain HIS Ascension into Heaven that was witnessed by so many??? God Bless, Memaw

I say they would have.

In the subsequent generation, someone would have spoken up.

Also, many people saw Him after he’d risen after dying on the cross. So He couldn’t have died, not risen and been moved to and buried in Talpiot, right?

And it would’ve been common knowledge that He was buried in Talpiot and Christianity wouldn’t have taken off, right?
