Somehow I missed this story. The Bush family’s e-mail was hacked, one of which contained paintings by Bush 43, incl. two (partially) nude self-portraits. The NY Times, HuffPo, &c are having a blast.
Here’s a fairly neutral review:

I think they’re not bad for an amateur, esp. one who has had no training. If he submitted them pseudonymously to an arts college he wouldn’t be accepted but they’d hardly stand out from the other submissions.

The left loves to hate George HW Bush. He sounds foolish and I have found that certain aspects of society feel if someone sounds intelligent they, in fact are intelligent. Unfortunately sounding intelligent doesnt necessarily follow they are moral, logical, or even rational, just possibly charismatic. IMO I think he came off worse than he was so political opponents take every opportunity to take advantage of that. If Clinton did the same would anyone care?

😦 I think it’s sad that their e-mail was hacked. I didn’t know that President Bush had artistic leanings. I actually think it’s pretty good. I just started taking private art lessons last month and it is WAY HARDER than you think. I would like to do nudes at some point. My question for you, didymus, is this: since you’re rather critical of his work and certain that he’d be rejected by art colleges, are you yourself an artist? :hmmm:

The one of his feet and legs in the bathtub takes some decent talent for perspective. He got it right, with the bathtub and his own legs, not an easy thing to do. The one in the shower is a little trickier…He could have gone larger and focused in on his face and shoulders. But those are just little suggestions. I think he does have some talent and I’m glad he has a relaxing hobby because he’s also a very active person, still rides his mountain bike.

President Bush seems to be a very private man and I think it’s despicable for the leftist media to publish these paintings that were on his PRIVATE email which was hacked. Have they no shame??

:mad::mad:

Honestly, Bush hasn’t done much since leaving office in the public’s eye and deserves to have that anything that gets hacked and leaked is very jerky thing to do. I honestly think he was better than the alternative of Gore/Kerry but, still just a highly mediocor president overall.

RJ, seriously?? How can you be outraged if you LOOKED? I encourage people to respect his privacy and not look at what we haven’t been invited to look at.

He’s no Rembrandt, but he’s better than me with the paintbrush, that’s for sure!

I found the painting of him standing up with his back to the viewer to be the most interesting. It’s as if he is trying to turn his back on the problems out there–war in the Middle East, terrorism, stress, economic issues, foreign policy, etc–and have a peaceful moment away from it all, but there is his reflection looking back at him asking “What are you going to do?”.

He is quite talented for a beginner. 🙂
That said, the liberal-progressive establishment in general hates anything done by Dubya; be it painting, eating, going to church, etc. If he decides to convert to Catholicism, then they’ll go after him and the Catholic Church!

My takeaway; use snail mail.
I know everybody knocks the Post Office but I’ve always found them to be reliable & whatever you send won’t remain on your provider’s server to be hacked into.

Good point. It may be old-fashioned, but MUCH more private.

My gosh, just let him be. He’s had enough scrutiny already. Would Fox do a story on Obama liking to do sculptures of himself in 2017? Or if Bill Clinton (actually I don’t want to know about Bill :eek:)

Clinton, do you really want to go there?
