Georgetown is one of just a few teaching monasteries of the Visitation that are left in the US. The Second Federation of the Visitation has taken a huge hit from the vocations crisis.

The Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary has its roots in early seventeenth-century France. Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal saw the opportunity for the creation of a religious order that would be welcoming to women seeking a deep relationship with God.
