German Pagan Runes and Items needed some advice

After removing the idols from them, the Catholic Church sometimes converted pagan temples into Catholic churches. So, re-purposing a candle holder once given out as an award to members of the SS for use as a candle holder for candles lit as a prayer for the dead or some other good purpose shouldn’t be a problem since the symbols on it, though not their original meaning, can be understood, as I previously mentioned, as Christian or Christian-friendly symbols. My answer might be different if the symbols were rotated swastikas or inverted pentagrams. Personally, if it were my candle holder, because of its past association with the SS, I would probably first ask a priest to bless it before using it. I don’t think there is anything wrong with lighting a candle on the winter solstice or to commemorate other astronomical events, such as the new moon, as long as it is done in honor of the Lord. (See Romans 14:5-6)

I do have many Items with swastikas on but just part of my collection. its is a kind of cross.

Yeah if i am not praying to the evil one and pray for the dead and have respect for them i did not see this as bad. I have a intrest in winter solstice as it was used before Jesus and around the same time of the year. i also read that Jesus brith is not knowen and is just celabrated on Dec 25th around the same time as the pagan Winter solstice.

Also would i need to go to mass to be good in gods eyes is saying prays and beliveing in god good enought ?

1. You are Catholic. Mass is a requirement on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. There is no discussion.
2. We can feel compassion for young (or old) men who were deceived or coerced into service in the SS without denying what they (as a whole) were. Do not deceive yourself; tortuous genocide is not necessary to defend one’s homeland.
3. Mixing paganism and Christianity is a quick route to full-blown paganism and heathenry. If you already feel that you could “never give up your hobby” this has a troubling hold on you. Whether or not it is wrong to collect SS items is a different matter than whether it is right for you to have these items. Please see a priest.

It was not a case of defending Germany. Hitler started an offensive war by invading neighbouring countries such as Poland in pursuit both of his policy of lebensraum and his racist ideology. This is not the place for historical discussion. But we must be clear. Whatever level of culpability an individual soldier may or may not have had, the fact is the Nazis were fanatically anti-Christian and no Catholic should seek to defend, let alone support such a regime/ideology.

There is nothing wrong with studying history but there is a line between objective and dispassionate study and being an apologist. Please for your own sake stay well within that line. The Nazis were about as far from the Lord as it is possible to be.

The sacraments of the Church, Church leaders, and the Bible and Sacred Tradition are all gifts from God to help us know the truth in matters of faith and morals and to help us live in a way that is pleasing to God in this spiritually dangerous world we live in. Someone who tries to live in this world on their own without availing himself of those gifts is much more likely to fall victim to self-deception, to the deception of other men or even to diabolical deception. That is why Church pastoral authorities, who have been charged by God to look after the faithful, have directed Catholics, at the very least, to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and to go to confession at least once a year, if they have any mortal sins to confess. This is serious matter. To deliberately disobey their directive without a good and serious reason is itself a mortal sin, a sin that if not repented of will result in eternal damnation.

Your characterization of history is quite wrong. Stalin murdered millions and millions. There was the Katyn Forest Massacre and others. The German soldier wore a belt buckle with the words Gott mit Uns, or God with Us. Of the hundreds of photos I have seen from the period, hastily dug field graves had crosses on them. As far as the Russians/Bolsheviks, I saw a wartime poster with a painting of Christ on the Cross. Under it were the words: “They don’t believe in this.” Referring to the Russians.

I am no apologist for the Nazis or SS but my father fought the Germans and history - actual history - is soon forgotten. My mother was dodging Allied bombs during the war as they attempted to take out a heavily defended rail line near where she worked.
