I have to say, as someone that has a family member that is a priest, people have NO IDEA how incredibly difficult it is to be a priest. The expectations are often, in my opinion, inhuman. To be openly judged in a public forum this way, though perhaps meant to be somehow helpful, has huge potential to be hurtful and destructive. I wonder how each parishioner would feel if there were a website rating them on how well they live the Catholic faith as they should?

Yes because the Mass is a ‘performance’ to be rated and the priest a functionary who is to be graded and judged by the congregation/audience.

It is very difficult to conceive as something pleasing to God - to have a standard by which priests are rated. It doesn’t seem so different from comparing saints… shallow.

Imagine if God were to judge us by the same standards used to judge those priests… As the Psalm says: "If you kept a record of our sins O Lord, who would survive…?"

In all probability, if we could move back a little , St. Peter’s post-denial rating would’ve ranked somewhere around the same as St. Paul’s pre-conversion rating.

Happily for us, God doesn’t rely on ratings … Where ratings abounded, grace abounded all the more.

And what makes it all the worse is that the criticism is anonymous, with no way to respond to it.

Moreover, the site already shows signs that it is being abused. As you might expect, it seems to have attracted cranks who aren’t actual “sheep” but who have a bone to pick with the pope or an outspoken bishop who has recently been in the news.

If you are going to “rate” your Priest, then you should have the decency to list your name. Otherwise it is nothing more than a gripe column.
