Get a patron saint for 2016

It is that time of the year again: time to get a patron saint to help us through the next 12 months (or longer if we get along really well).

I have been doing this for a few years now, and pray for a patron saint for our family. For next year our patron is Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Her feast falls on my husband’s birthday. He has been taking slow steps towards the church and I have been praying for his conversion. I have for some time suspected she would be of influence in this, and now our family has received her as a patron saint too. It’s official then!

Please share whom you got and if there is an obvious link to your circumstances.
 
I got Honorius of Amiens. Guess I’ll be baking a lot of cakes this year!
 
Cool! I remember doing this last year, when I rec’d St. John Kanty. Which is hilarious because of what happened to me at the Catholic school where I used to work, LOL

So now, for 2016…tada!!!

Which is awesome, because I’m from New Mexico, and I’m also a DRE in a parish.
Many of my “kids” are from various minority cultures.

My Saint for 2016 is St. Bernadette! She was a favorite of mine when I was a child. I received a book about her and was enthralled with her story. I do sometimes feel that I am alone in my faith with regards to my family, so she is an appropriate choice for me. 🙂

St John of God

I never knew anything about him, but reading his life is an inspiration. His service to God was imperfect, impulsive, and often just plain messy. He has a lot to teach me, and I can’t wait to see how that plays out in the coming days.

I got St. John of Damascus!

It means a lot to me because last month we had our home enthroned to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and was getting questions/insinuations from non-Catholic family members regarding the Sacred Heart picture now hanging in the living room. When I clicked the “do you want to learn more about this saint?” link there was a short video about this very subject. The video explains why it is good and holy to have such images and devotions. Amazing!
 
I got Saint Acca, and since I’d never heard of him, he is likely waiting patiently for my prayers. This is actually a fitting choice, since Acca was a Benedictine abbot, and I’ve been drawn to the Benedictines for many years now. He was also Bishop of Hexham and a patron saint of scholars, which is good since I have a lot to learn!

St Guy of Anderlecht, who embraced poverty. There’s a message for me there, I think.

I got St John of Parma, and I’m not even Catholic. 🙂

I read where he was a Franciscan who was known for his piety and learning and for being somewhat of a “secret shopper” who traveled to practically all of the Franciscan convents in existence. Sometimes he would arrive and not be recognized, remaining there for a number of days to test the true spirit of the brothers, according to an article I read about him. Thanks, Clare.

I’m not sure what Catholics ask their saint to do for them, but I sincerely hope he will help me on my spiritual journey in this life.

We take inspiration from their lives and holiness, and we ask them to offer a prayer for us now and then.

Ah…A saint who was simply trying to be the best Christian he could be.

Have to think on that one, maybe someone here can give me some insight. Just lost my home of 12 years, have no place to go yet because of financial difficulties, barely able to walk because I need a double knee replacement (I have good insurance, this just isn’t the time to be in rehab). Well, I am half Czech but I hate to dance even if I could! 😊
