CNN usually does an OK job in its representation of Catholicism.

But I’m nervous about a new miniseries coming this March called “The Pope: The Most Powerful Man in History” (or something similar to that).

Get ready! We may have to clear up some misconceptions and distortions!!

Will it be a history of the Papacy or will it only focus on Pope Francis?

The preview looked like a history – but i can’t tell how comprehensive. When I saw the cast for season 1 (episode 1?) it looked like there were actors playing various characters throughout history, like Charlemagne, Borgias, etc.

If it is done by CNN, they will probably take many liberties with the truth! I am sure they will present it either during Lent or for
Easter!

That was just what I was thinking: just in time for Easter.

Hasn’t there been a trend in recent years to air anti-Christian content around Easter? I hear things, but don’t watch TV myself.

Usually the history channel or discovery channel will run shows around Easter or Christmas throwing doubt on Jesus being born of a Virgin or of the Resurrection.
Lots of theories about how their scholars interpret the Bible and Christianity itself.

When something is seriously wrong in the media and requires comment I’d recommend the articles from the “Catholic League” they’re like the A-Team of US Catholics.

Does anyone watch CNN anymore? As far as news goes, I prefer to hear rumors, idle chit chat and small children.

I don’t even have cable right now!
However, when I had cable I never watched CNN for news! I might check how they were covering a certain story (the spin they were putting on the story).

As I said, I have a general impression that CNN usually is fair to Christianity. I don’t think anything about their series “Finding Jesus” was that controversial. At least, CNN is not as bad as the History Channel and so on.

Still, if it were a station like FOX News doing the Pope series, we may have to be worried about a different kind of distortion: anti-Catholicism from evangelical conservatives.

Then AGAIN, it’s not necessarily “CNN” doing the series.

How has Fox shown itself to be anti catholic? Within the last week, they had a segment talking about Catholic Church and homosexuality… It seemed fair and unbiased to me

I keep clear of FOX News in general.

But I didn’t say it was anti-Catholic. I just said that, if one worried about CNN’s objectivity from one perspective, one would also have to be worried about Fox, considering their own perspectives.

I won’t miss it (as in, I won’t watch it and won’t feel that I missed out).

I’m skeptical about anything concerning Christianity if not produced by Catholics, and I’m a lot more skeptical when secular media makes an attempt.

Nah, it seems more objective and fair than Fox and MSNBC.

But like I said, at least as far as TV goes.

Oh, you still watch TV? I gave up all media, with the exception of Catholic radio. I am much more at peace.

If you want news, just stick to C-SPAN or something like it.

CNN, MSNBC, FOX, yadda yadda are all very biased. But, some big time players at Fox were Catholic (ie Bill O’Reilly) so I feel like they’d be fair enough on this topic though.

I personally just ignore news most of the time. Looking around where you are, everything seems fine compared to panic and terror everywhere on the TV.

If I watch TV it’s either
(1) EWTN
(2) Impractical Jokers on TruTV because that’s SO HILARIOUS!!!
(3) CNN sometimes bc I like their anchors
(4) movies on tv

Bill O’Reilly? No thanks!
