A duo of âChristian pixiesâ, eh?Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are safeguarding our right to take Easter and Christmas off to go and worship in our Churches, by entertaining and distracting the secular culture, and giving them reasons to keep Christmas and Easter part of the holiday calendar.
Notice how Santa Claus, every year, forces WinterFest to be held on or around December 25th, and the Easter Bunny forces Spring Holiday to occur on the weekend of Easter Sunday, despite the fact that it occurs on a different date each year.
Personally, I think we need to have a greater appreciation for our magical friends.![]()
No, I would say that is uncommon in the US. Many people put up their Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving - (last week of November) Some wait until after Advent - but I think the former is more common. Iâve not heard of anyone waiting until Christmas Day to put up a tree.As a matter of fact, we donât have a Christmas tree until Christmas Day - is that common?

Sounds like my 5 year old. When talking about Jesus rising fromt he dead, he was very talkative, made His own comments and asked questions. But when we talked about the Easter bunny, he just looked at me solemnly and didnât say anything. I had the feeling he didnât want to hurt my feeling and tell me that the Easter bunny wasnât realMy 5 year old knows why we celebrate the Holy Days. My mother asked her âWhat happens today?â on Sunday and she quickly answered, âJesus rose from the dead!â
In contrast;
Saturday night:
KIDDO: Tell me that Easter Bunny Story
ME: what do you mean?
KIDDO: You know, you leave presents when I sleep⌠whatâs the part with the bunny?
ME: (a bit caught off guard, I told her about how the Easter Bunny comes when Children are sleeping and leaves candy and eggs in a basket. I also mentioned how the Easter bunny hides the eggs for egg hunts.)
Kiddo: (laughed hysterically for a long time before speaking) Thatâs the silliest thing I ever heard! Why would people tell that?
ME: Because itâs fun, of course.
My kid is too serious.
As for the thread topicI didnât vote. Jesus Christ can be the focus without removing all or fun things related to holidays.
I would just like to point out it is rather offensive for many of you to insinuate that we take the FUN out of holidays by NOT focusing on fake characters. Since when is joy and fun only based on Santa and the Easter Bunny? Come on, get creativeâŚmy children get presents at Christmas and an Easter basket at Easter (see my post above), plus some small gifts on St Nicholas day, we bake cookies and die eggs, we put up a Christmas tree and decorate it, we use Advent calendars and wreaths, etc; however, we mainly focus on the TRUE SPIRIT of the HOLYDAY seasons through these activitiesâJesus. That in no way precludes âfunâ. In our not using these fake characters, I in no way say you CANâT or SHOULDNâT use them. I wrote what works for OUR family and why we do it the way we doâŚAnother different Opinion
Ever notice itâs the adults that say anything about Santa And the Easter Bunny?? Could it be they have already enjoyed the holidays when they were children & now it seems like they want to take it away from the little ones. If they were so bad & deceiving to children why have they been in existence so long???Same with Hollween, some adults say itâs pagan & stuff but I betcha they went around the neighbors with a bag & brought some candy home when they were YOUNG!!
Children who are taught about Jesus Know the stories & whatâs wrong with a little fun in there lives .Is it cause we are so unhappy & donât want anyone else to have any FUN whether itâs imaginary friends or fantasy of getting toys or candy from Santa or a Bunny!
Just my 2cents
I meant that the poll itself implied it was an either or proposition, not that those who donât âdoâ fake characters have no fun.I would just like to point out it is rather offensive for many of you to insinuate that we take the FUN out of holidays by NOT focusing on fake characters. Oh⌠well thatâs different I suppose.I think he was referring to putting up the Christmas tree in the church, not at home.
Just as Syele pointed out in the post that I echoed, did not intend to say that people who donât âdoâ santa have no fun, just as I am sure you did not intend your post did not mean to imply that those who âdoâ santa donât mainly focus on the TRUE SPIRIT of these holy days.I would just like to point out it is rather offensive for many of you to insinuate that we take the FUN out of holidays by NOT focusing on fake characters.
