I purchased a St Francis Pet Medal for my dog. My wife and I wanted to get it blessed by our priest. Is that strange? Also how do I approach the priest about this?

When I need something blessed, I just walk up and ask. Normally I do this after mass.

“Hello, Father, would you please bless this St Francis medal I got for my dog?”

Most likely he will take it and bless it and you will be on your way in a couple of minutes.

You just ask your priest after Mass if he would bless your St Francis pet medal that you hold in your hand. I’ve never had a priest bless a pet medal, but the above is how I’ve had our priest bless several rosaries.

My dog lays in the dirt, sniffs disgusting things, and chews things. I wouldn’t want a blessed object to be disrespected or abused, so I would not have a medal my pet wears blessed. Just my :twocents: .

My cat wears a St. Francis medal but I didn’t have it blessed. For one thing I made it a point to buy a cheap one so that I wouldn’t feel bad if it got lost. Somehow the idea of blessing a 75 cent medal worn by a cat just doesn’t feel right.

;)I guess to have a medal of St. Francis blessed for a dog, it takes a St. Bernard.
