I wanted to get some opinions on getting engaged… Im currently in a relationship with a catholic guy (im catholic aswell) and we’ve been together for almost a year and I knew pretty quick in the relationship he was the one i wanted to spend my life with. We’ve talked about our dreams and hopes and goals etc. for the future. As much as I want to marry him I dont want to speed into things either, we are taking it one step at a time… my question is any advice when or more things to consider before the engagment?🙂

First of all … welcome to the Forum and congratz on your relationship.

there are about 1,000,000 more things to think about
Where are you going to live?
Children - How many?
Church & relationship with Christ a must
finances
hyphenate or not
etc.
etc.

are you looking for anything in particular?

Marriage is a beautiful sacrament and should not be taken lightly. Keep Christ in the center and you can’t go wrong.

-Who controls the clicker

-what day will be taco day

-Saturday Vigil Mass or Sunday?

-who unloads the dishwasher

-where y’all go for Christmas

All other issues can be worked out. But real important to be on the same page with the above. If he finds out after the fact you don’t do tacos, grounds for annulment.

You appear to have good outlook on things, congrats and welcome to the forums.

And the choice of slice n bakes, frozen pot of cookie dough, or making homemade from scratch each and every time- you forgot that. And who is in charge of nagging about the leaf raking, and who has to rake them…

Welcome aboard, and enjoy the times when you don’t have to talk at all to communicate- those are the best IMO.

Not only are there a million things to consider besides last names, and accommodations, and children, but how is your relationship with his family and his to yours?

Bama, I fear to ask, but as a computer nerd, am I unable to enter into marriage validly? 😛 😃

Wow there are so many things… The most important probably being whether you two are on the same page with your faith… I know you said you are both Catholic… it just means so many different things to so many people. Other than that…

open to life?
discipline of children
money/ finances
work or stay at home after kids are born
Celebrating Holidays
who makes what decisions
how to handle work/home life
etc, etc, etc…

thanks for the advice!.. and with the being on the same page faith wise, we are… we do our best to base God as the center of our relationship, and if anything I’ve learned a lot about my faith from my boyfriend, its great. We have talked about finances and children and we agree on all of these things, we also know that money is important and we dont want to jump into anything and be broke. I guess I just wanted to know these answers just to see what else there is to think about… me and my boyfriend are very open with each other and its amazing how we work things out!🙂
