We have to get fitted for new uniforms for my job. I have already been fitted once and was able to do it while working as we were down where the uniform place is.

However, they have since changed the pants and now we have to be refittrd again, this time instead of two week to get it done, I have the next two days. We were juat notified today. I won’t be able to get it done while on shift apparently.

My problem is that the place is at least 90 minutes one way from where I live and is a good chunk out of my day on a day off to do when this is a work thing and should be done on their time, not my time away from work when it will take over three hours to do.

They made us go through shift bids again and I had to fight to get my same days that I have now. If I lost my days, I would have lost the amount of days that I get to see my kids each week and would probably only get to see them once a week instead of the three nights that I get them now.

This is very frustrating and stressful to say the least.

It’s not a perfect answer, but can you plan to do something near where you have to go for the fitting? Shopping? A movie? Lunch? It might make the drive time a little less frustrating.

But overall, yes they should work this out so that employees can have this taken care of while on working hours.

While I understand the benefit of a union in this instance, I would have a hard time justifying the dues each month.

I briefly worked for a company with a union around 15 years ago and the dues were high then. That was also before half my paycheck went towards healthcare and child support.

I couldn’t imagine having to pay them now.

I’m just going to go and get it done. Don’t want to put out more money than I need to in gas cost.

Will they permit you to turn in your mileage? They should at least do that, since you can’t go "on the clock and they made no arrangements for the tailor to come to the workplace.

Not sure what that means.

If you mean turn in my mileage? No. They don’t allow that at all.

That’s very unjust. I’d keep the receipt for gas and save it as a work expense on my taxes.

There are both federal and state workers compensation laws that cover this sort of thing for hourly employees.

By rights an employer with decent ethics should either pay you and allowance to accommodate you having to do what is a work related task or allow to take your time back. Sad reality is employers don’t want a pound of flesh these days it’s more like a kilogram or two.

Looked something similar up before and could not find anything that coves it.

That I agree with.

This company doesn’t even give us fully working equipment most of the time.

Makes it hard being an EMT.

And being an EMT is stressful enough. What if you put down the 3 hours on your time card, or whatever system you use, as if you expected to be paid.
Might be worth a shot.

It’s a digital system and I would have to go to the base in order to do that. They would check the clock in with my scheduled shifts to see if they match.

It wouldn’t work.

I talked to one of the FTOs tonight and he said not to worry about it. He said im already fitted and they didnt give enough time to get it done only telling us today and it having to be done by Monday and the place is only open Monday through Friday.

My partner and I went down last Monday to get fitted and sure enough, the pants were the same size.

They sent an email out on Tuesday giving everyone else that didn’t go another week to get it done calling each person out by name. Most were from my base, which is the satellite base for the company.
