Dear christian brothers and sisters, I am going to America for 10 days this tuesday, I am from Ireland, I have filled out the visa waiver program and all that, although I was told that the security have the final say if I get into America or not, thing is is that I was told that if I tell them that I am going to visit my girlfriend they might think I will want to stay and thus not let me in. is this true?

from a very confused Catholic
Stephen:confused:

Hi!

I think asking why you are visiting is a standard question…

I have been asked the same thing when I visited your country to see my family…

Ah Ireland… what a gorgeous country.

So me telling them ‘‘I am here to see my girlfriend’’ will not prevent me from getting in?

They have a U.S. Customs station at the airport in Shannon, so I imagine you would find out either way before you even left.

Shannon! that is where we fly in to! My famiy lives in County Clare.
My dad is from there.

I am sure most countries are looking for people smuggling drugs or something… not visitors.

My husband is from Cork City and he would go back and forth when we were dating. He was always alowed in to visit his girlfriend:)

I would seriously doubt it.
Great this sounds good.

I am flying out from Dublin, same thing maybe?

Usually they want to know how long you are going to stay for and where you are staying. If you’ve bought a return ticket it’s pretty clear you’ll be going home. I don’t think you need to worry. Enjoy your visit!

Yes Praise Jesus, I’ve bought a return ticket. nice one.

God bless you
Stephen.

They may also ask you questions like - do you own a home in Ireland, do you have a job and are you returning to that job. Be prepared for all sorts of questions like this, I was interrogated the same way when going to England to visit my (then) boyfriend (now husband). They want to ensure that you are not coming over to stay and that you will be returning home when you say you will.

Have a wonderful trip!!

I dont have a job:eek: will this lead them to believe that I am gonna stay?

Don’t panic - a great many people are not working right now.

Just be honest!!! Don’t try to evade any questions or tell them what you think they want to hear. If you are not doing anything wrong then you won’t have any problems. 🙂

Your not getting into america you jobless little Irishman.

I wont evade anything, truth demolishes fortresses thats the way I see it. 😃

I am assuming that since you have a visitor’s visa and a return ticket, that you will be fine.

Are you coming through JFK?
Hi Mary Gail Yes I am coming through JFK.😃

I praise God also for the advice.

God bless

I always wondered if Co. Cork is the origin of the expression “he’s a corker”.

When I was going back and forth between the U.S. and the Middle East with the Army, we would often stop at Shannon. I’ve been to Ireland three times now, but I’ve still never left the airport… 😦
