Getting into Scripture

Hi, I have been a Catholic for just over a year now (it has been two years last month since going to Catholic Mass) and I have been seeing what I love about my faith and have started to unite myself to the Sacred Heart and all its associations (Divine Mercy, Immaculate Heart of Mary and by extension, the Rosary) and I have prayed for an insatiable hunger for Scripture and to make it more and more of my life.

Yet I don’t really know where to begin! I have a magazine (this October’s issue of Bible Alive) yet due to my course and my lack of scheduling, I have been unable to read it every day (though it is nice when I do read a day’s readings, to read their reflections). I have started to read John’s Gospel because I think it is a very beautiful gospel and allows me to enter into the fulness of God’s Truth and to unite myself more to the Sacred Heart. Yet, I really don’t know where to branch off from there. It can be quite daunting and boring to just read John’s Gospel from beginning to end. Does anyone have any areas/books of the bible to suggest I pick up and read/study on an ‘off day’, such as focusing on the NT or the OT?

Any help would be appreciated.

Psalms of David (and Asaph)…
David was a man after the LORD’s own heart (1Sam 13:14).
Lots of NT quotes of OT from the Psalms.
 
I have two words for you–Jeff Cavins. Here is his website: greatadventureonline.com/ I suggest you start with The Bible Timeline and branch out from there. He makes the Bible come alive and ties everything together to make sense of it all. After doing one of his studies, I suggest you then get into that part of the Bible Jeff has just taught and read it for yourself. It will make a lot more sense.

Check with your parish and see about attending the Bible Study group.
