Hi my name is Xander and this is my first post. Wow that sounds like an AA greeting, but I digress. My fiancee and I are getting married in a little over a year (5 April of next year), we are both very excited and have butterflys just thinking about it. We have our first meeting at our parish in two weeks (due to Holy Week) and are kinda nervous about it. We don’t quite know what to expect and was wondering if there was anyone that might be able to enlighten us as to what to expect. On a side note, now that we are engaged we both have an urge to become more active in our parish and in our spiritual lives in general. I myself have started praying more, I hadn’t really “prayed” in years because I just hadn’t been very faithful. But as I said now we are wanting to shore up our faith so that we can show the world Christ’s love through our’s. I hope to hear from you guys soon.

In His name,
Xander

Oh my. 😃 Now that’s the kind of relationship I’d wish on anyone. 😃

Does she have wings and a halo or something? 😃

Congratulations,

This is an exciting time in your lives. I loved being engaged. Don’t worry about the priest, it will be very helpful to talk to someone that is totally on your side.

Don’t forget to learn NFP. The sooner your lady starts the better.

Good luck and God bless you both in yor future lives together.

congrats, best wait until your meeting with the priest to find out how marriage prep is done in your area. Usually involves taking a test called Foccus which helps you do just that, focus on areas that call for more discussion and work in your relationship. Then you meet with a sponsor couple, assisted by any of several good preparation courses. You may also attend and Engaged Encounter weekend, which helps to improve communication skills, a key component of a successful marriage. You will probably be referred to NFP classes as well. If you have a chance to attend a class on the Theology of the Body, jump on it, excellent.

If you are looking for something to do together to get more involved in your parish consider volunteering in your parish youth group or youth CCD. Kids of that age 13-18, relate very well to young adults like yourselves, you will learn a great deal about the faith by teaching it and modelling it to others. and it is fun. and younger folks like you have more tolerance for pizza than us old folks, a key requisite for youth ministry.
