Given we are not to Divine, soothsayer, consult mediums etc, read western or Chinese horoscopes, it’s a sin.

Covered in one of the commandments
While I think ghosthunting is nonsense I do not believe it is covered by the do not divine teaching. Hunting is not diving or consulting.

There are no ghosts. The deceased are in one of three places; they’re not walking the earth. So anything you conjure up is a demon. They could be masquerading as ghosts, but they’re not.

Attempts to communicate with the dead, what is at the very core of “ghost hunting” is forbidden. The Catechism provides a brief overview:

Divination and magic

2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.

Seeking out supernatural beings, has a huge element of belief in it, and condones such activity. As Catholics we must get back to following the 10 Commandments no ifs buts or maybes.

Little innocent fun type activities sneak onto secular culture. The smoke of satan is polite and initially benevolent. Until it drags you in.

We gotta raise that bar and keep it raised, for God.

How would you conjure up a demon while hunting a ghost?
Many ghost type haunting, seances etc, are demons. The genuine dead, if they show themselves, look at St Faustina. They ask for prayers.
The rich man wasn’t allowed to ask Lazarus to come back from the dead and warn his brothers of hell.

The reason I asked the question is that I do not believe there are ghosts. Apparitions, visions etc are not ghosts.
There are no souls which have not departed the earth after death because they have some mission or unfinished business.
At death the soul immediately goes to Hell (if dying in a state of mortal sin) or is immediately saved (either straight to Heaven or Purgatory first). This is an infallible teaching of the Church.

Actually there is a book on Purgatory which explains that a soul wandering the earth IS experiencing a portion of purgatory.

Here is a great video from Fr. Mike Scmitz dealing with the topic of ghosts. Its very interesting,

Not a good idea…no telling what you’ll find, or what will find you.

I’ve been invited to go on a ghost hunt. You know, where they walk around an empty building with a microphone and say “give us a sign, give us a sign”. I
It’s like playing with a Ouija board; you open the doors to spirits which will end up haunting you years later. Stay away from it. People who become demonically oppressed, harassed and possessed often have a link with dabbling with the spiritual world; since the spirits are outside of time, this may come back to haunt you 20-30 years from now.

The reason I asked the question is that I do not believe there are ghosts.
After the resurrection Jesus appeared to His disciples and said He was not a ghost.

“They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” Luke 24:37-39

Probably a sin against the virtue of prudence.

You’ll be messing with powers that outclass you by a mile. It’s like playing with fire only worst.

there is no such thing as a ghost

the dead are dead ; they cannot come back to planet earth

the souls of the departed are either in heaven, hell or purgatory

“ghosts” are not loafing about neighborhood houses attempting to scare or stalk us

the souls of the deceased have got bigger issues to deal with
