I’ve kinda been wanting to go to places that are reputed to be haunted and just hang out. Is it immoral?

Let me note, I’m not interested in seances or stupid rubbish like that. I’m a practising Catholic and I know that seances and psychics and whatever are wrong.

But, like, I’m staying in the Philippines right now and there is a Film Centre that Imelda Marcos had built. As the story goes, she wanted it built in a hurry, so when there was a big acccident there, she didn’t wanna bother saving the people who were buried in the rubble and just built over them. The place is supposed to be haunted; Wikipedia says that it may just be an urban legend, but I’ve gotten confirmation from a professor at a top school in this country who was a journalist and saw the blood and mess and everything. I wanted to sleep over at that Film Centre, though I changed my mind when I drove by there once and saw that homeless people live there (yes, I’m crazy; ghosts don’t scare me but homeless people do).

Also my nephew/best friend is a dormer at a university here and I plan to go there to spend time with him. There’s supposed to be a room there where nobody will stay because it’s haunted. I heard people claim they hear noises from there.

Anyway, is it a sin if I just want to go there and, say, sleep or just stay there? I’m not going to summon a ghost but I’d like to see if anything happens. Stupid to do, maybe, but is it sinful?

I do not see a problem. Be careful not to involve yourself in rubbish. Ghosts are theoretically a person God allows you to see, a person suffering in purgatory or a demonic entity. I wish your safety should the ghost be of the former.

Your idea is not the safest, but I do not know for certain if it is immoral. Please keep what I said in your thoughts.

God Bless

I don’t know if it’s immoral or not but having been to the “Phils.” a few times myself, I would be pretty worried about camping out anywhere. Kind of dangerous, don’t you think? If the ghosts don’t get you, the muggers probably will.

I’ve been wondering the same thing but I’ve been a little nervous to ask the question. I’ve wanted to go to this hotel in CO that is suppose to be haunted and just see if anything happens. I have gone yet because I wasn’t sure if it was sinful, either.

Yeah, I hear you, that’s why I didn’t wanna sleep at the Manila Film Center.

Sleeping at the dorm in the haunted room won’t be a problem though. It’s Ateneo so it’s safe.

This sounds like a basis for a scary movie. They don’t really need to go into the creepy haunted house, but let’s give it a try lol:D

Definitely not sinful since you’re not engaging in occult activities and as far as I know of such things, you’re good.

I think it’s definitely stupid though. Then again, I’m a bloody coward when it comes to ghosts. What do I know? >>;; I probably make Shaggy and Scooby look braver than the Knights of the Round Table. ><;;

Ever seen the movie D’ Anothers? You can say I’m like the main character there minus the part of being Da One. >.<;;

Give me a St. Benedict Crucifix blessed by a Catholic priest, a gun with spare ammo and attached flashlight/laser sights, a bottle of Holy Water, a knife and the Brown Scapular and I’ll go to any haunted place …
And the gun and knife will do what…? 😉

Everybody likes a good scare from time to time, but I think calling out or *searching for *spirits is definitely immoral. We can pray for the dead…that’s it. 🙂

My thoughts exactly. Ghosts are not only already dead, they’re no longer solid either. You’d have better luck shooting a zombie.

I also don’t see the purpose of the holy stuff. Ghosts aren’t demonic. :confused:
They’re just really scary disembodied spirits. >_>;;

What about silver bullets?:cool:

I would bring holy items in case the spirit in the house is not casper the friendly ghost

To deal with threats of a non-spiritual nature as others have noted …

If they are not demonic in nature, then I would have nothing to fear from them but if they are demonic in nature, then the Holy items will offer spiritual protect.

Got it covered … http://fud-files.netfirms.com/image/private/guns/SILVERB.JPG … you might not be able to tell from the photo due to poor lighting but you can tell from the box that the bullets are SILVERTIPS

That’s a very impressive line of defense.

You never want to go into battle unprepared:knight2:

Saw your profile, I see you’re from Ateneo. Do you happen to know which haunted dorm room I mean? It’s 311 in Cervini Hall.

I hear there are other haunted spots around campus. Know of any?

I’m afraid I can’t help you there. Yes I’m an Atenean but not of AdMU. I’m from one of the Mindanao branches. :o

Ever read stuff like True Philippine Ghost Stories though? I’m not sure about the true part but you’re bound to come across haunted campuses every now and then. I used to watch a show called Nginiig too and I think they may have also covered haunted dorms. 🤷

While it is wrong and against Church teaching to try and contact the dead, I don’t see anything wrong with being respective to those that have gone before us. Saint Faustina Kowalska, in her diary, wrote how many souls came to her asking her to pray for them and to offer up her suffering for them so that they might be released from purgatory.

Ohh, yes, you must intercede for souls in purgatory. It is what God calls us all to do!!

I don’t think we “must”. I think that we SHOULD and it is a good idea to do so because when they are released from purgatory, we will be assured of their prayers for us but I don’t think that we MUST do so.

Seeking out ghosts. Is it immoral? Well, it’s foolish thats for sure. If you do come across a ghost in your daily activities. Have a mass said for the poor thing. Don’t treat it like a novelty.
