Let’s say there is a book (or movie or song) that contains something against Church Teaching, would that book (or movie or song) still be acceptable to read/watch/listen to?

Ex-a song that mentioned the devil or that had pictures of tarot cards in its music video
A book which has a plot based on magic, ghosts, murder, or involved one of the characters communicating with ghosts

I’m not being scrupulous, I’m just curious about what The Church teaches about this.

Thanks!

The apostle Paul wrote:

“Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Well, it depends on how strong one is in their faith. It’s best not to watch something if you think it might undermine, or weaken, your faith in some way. These really are judgment calls you have to make yourself. If you’re not sure either way, it’s of course, better to err on the side of caution.

But if you want to see how much people can disagree on this sort of thing, all you have to do is google for CAF threads on Harry Potter. 😮

I personally find some of the pop music terribly sinful and caustic, very contrary against living as a good Catholic Christian. Don’t listen to that rot.

But do please talk with a priest about these concerns of yours. Write them down so you don’t forget to ask Him.
