Ghost Priests Offering Mass

I have a picture of my husband and I standing in our living room, and in the background is ghostly shadow of a cowled monk, and it is clearly identifiable. It is the freakiest thing I ever saw.

We showed the picture to our friends and family and they were amazed. Then, one day I was cleaning my living room and the “lightbulb” went on in my head. In one of the corners of my living room I had a table, and on it was a statue of a cowled monk. Somehow, when the photograph was taken, the reflection of the statue in a nearby window got superimposed on the picture, and it looks like we indeed had a ghostly visitor. This is the only type of “residual effect” I’m willing to believe in, but at the time I was beginning to wonder…
ah ha! ok, I see what happened.
That is called a Pepper’s Ghost Illusion.
Disney uses that in the Haunted Mansions to project a ghost where every they want to. it’s also used in carnival sideshows sometimes only projecting a head or a body. one of the most famous of these illusions was Zambora the gorilla girl. watch her change before your eyes into a gorilla. also done as a vampire in some places.

Its a public discussion forum. Are you saying forum members should stay away because they are not allowed to have different opinions from you?
Curious, is it against forum rules to break into a discussion and denigrate the subject matter rather than contribute to the discussion? Because that was how I read the post, rather than an expression of a “different opinion”.

Why do you think the Forums provide the animated smilies? They are there for us to use and sometimes that is all that is needed to express an opinion!

Anyone who says they saw a ghost priest saying Mass should seek a live priest for help or a doctor.

Very ironic that you would say that, considering your last post vehemently defended an extremely uncharitable post because this was an “open forum”. I guess you meant only open to you and people who see things your way.

This is an open discussion of why people have claimed to see unusual things and what the Church has to say about it.
I think I just read in this thread that Father Padre Pio saw an alter boy from Purgatory during Mass. According to you, he needs to see another priest or a doctor. 🤷 You’ve said your piece. If you don’t mind, I’d like to listen to others discuss this without extradordinarily rude interjections and attempts to de-rail the thread.

I repeat. Nobody has seen a ghost priest saying Mass.

Oh I’ve seen those at Disney! Never occured to me it was the same sort of thing. Cool.

Sorry about the confession derailment. We really need to get back to the ghost priests saying Mass.

👍

That’s not a derailment. This is:
Why does everybody have to figure everything out? Why can’t it just be left to “we just don’t know” and let it go?

Personally- I think this is a big product of imagination. I also don’t agree with the stories and books that go on and on about the souls in Purgatory attending Mass in parishes on earth with their guardian angels, ghost priests celebrating Masses, etc. We are not obligated to beleive in them.

At best, this is a private vision, and not meant to be blabbed about on CAF; at worst, some sort of demonic vision that needs a priest and ought not to be blabbed about on CAF. The in between could be anyhting from a psychotic episode to a residual to a vivid imagination, and ought not to be blabbed on CAF. Suffice it to say, we don’t know:shrug: and I don’t want to know.

I don’t know about ghost priests saying Mass, but I think a couple of them were responsible for entering certain baptisms and confirmations into our parish registers in invisible ink.

No, there is only one Holy Ghost…
a ghost mass would not be valid because they would not be under a bishop anymore. once the bishop knows a priest has past he is taken off the roles as retired.

This is a joke, right? Everyone realizes that a priest, once he’s dead, he’s no longer a priest anymore than a man and woman are married after they die.

Please tell me that it is a joke.

JR 🙂

Actually, I don’t think that the priesthood ends in death. Certainly St. Peter doesn’t stop excersising his mission with the Church. If you read the preface of the Apostles, one of the lines notes that “from their place in heaven, they guide us still.” Furthermore, when the Holy Father imparted the Apostolic Blessing (and plenary indulgence), he mentioned the authority “given to us by the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul.”

Incidentally, how about the psalm, “You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek” that is chanted during presbyteral and episcopal ordinations? This same psalm is also chanted down here for the funerals of priests. Inasmuch as this psalm points to Jesus and his High Priesthood, it can certainly apply to both the presbyterate and the bishops, including the popes.

The OP brings up something rahter fascinating. Lately, there have been a lot of programs on both the History and Biography Channels about hauntings. Some of these hauntings supposedly include priests, such as the one in St. Batholomew’s in London. I just watch them for entertainment value only. Nonetheless, they are rather interesting.

What do you think of the stories about people seeing ghosts of former priests offering Mass in church?

Is there any possibility for the Mass to be valid?
Only if you believe in them.

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

And even a ghost pope. Of course it might be kind of hard to tell the difference.

But I like the post about not having to attend mass in heaven. Everyone gets to sleep in on Sundays.
