What are ghosts?

Weve all seen ghosts photos and they are usually from someone in the early 1900s or late 1800s.
Why are there no cavemen ghosts?

Why do the ghosts of children seem to never mature? I mean if they can see and experience our world you would think with all the new technology that would cause them to learn and grow out of their childhood. It seems they are stuck in the same mind frame
from when they died despite all that is going on around them.

Ive seen people on the web and ghost hunter shows communicate with them. This tells me they are aware of their surroundings…taken with a grain of salt they are actual/real evps from ghost. And say for the sake of arguement they do exist.

Why would God allow a child or “good person” to be stuck here. In my mind there would be no more reason for God to be behind a veil at the time of death. What I mean is you can justify why bad things happen to good people in this world due to free will and faith it just doesnt make sense to me why the same laws apply after death because at that point
your no longer having to prove your faith.

What do you think?

Maybe they are in purgatory? Maybe purgatory is here? I’ve wondered about this myself.

I work in an office that is in an old house that is haunted. A couple of other people saw a little boy ghost here. There have been a lot of strange goings-on, although lately they seem to have abated. Have the ghosts moved on? Did they do their time and get released? Who knows?

I did see a dog here once that walked down the hall and disappeared. One of our attorneys saw it a moment later upstairs. I can’t explain it, but I am not on drugs and not given to hallucinations.

I never thought about a caveman ghost before, but you’re right, they aren’t depicted in tv shows (reality or not) or movies. Just a theory, but maybe it’s because cavemen wouldn’t have existed on our continent? The first inhabitants walked over the thin strip of land between Russia and Alaska (can’t remember the name now) and they weren’t cave dwellers as far as I know and in any case they were all up north. The people who migrated further south didn’t live in caves. So I guess to see a caveman’s ghost you’d have to go to Europe 😃

Your questions are best answered by someone more knowledgeable than me. Let me just say that the spirit world is vast and complex. God created the earth. It is clear that He has a great imagination and loves variety.

IMHO, there’s no such thing as ghosts. There are Angels to protect us and demons to tempt us, but no ghosts. All of our faithful departed are in the arms of the Father. :angel1: Now, if I’m wrong, please quote the scripture to me where it says that the spirits of the faithful departed remain earthbound for any reason. From what I’ve read, you go “up or down” but you don’t stay here. But again, I’m willing to admit I’m wrong when proven so. 🤷

Hello HC and thank you for your response!

Your right however the bible does not contain everything about heaven and earth as John said there is more much more too much to be contained in a book. So that leaves the rest to our imagination and wonderment.🙂

God created a huge unfolding universe. If you want to take a look at infinity the closest youll get is the mandelbrot set. Google it and have a look!

Seagal, (great name by the way)

You make a valid point but as far as I know noone in Europe has seen a caveman ghost either.

I know there have been stories of people seeing Native American ghosts though.

HopeInChrist… there are such things as ghosts, but they are not the things often portrayed on television. The terms ghost, spirit, and soul all basically mean the same thing. We generally use the term spirit to refer to an incorporeal being like an Angel or demon. The term soul refers to a spirit with a corporeal body (Humans). The term ghost is rather ambiguous in that it is sometimes used to refer to a spirit (Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost), and it is sometimes used to refer to a soul.

Ghosts are mentioned in scripture. This article may be of interest to you. It cites all the scriptural references and has a very good explanation of the phenomena associated with ghosts.

Seven Kinds of Ghosts by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM:

EWTN has a wonderful series called Angels of God with Fr. John Horgan. I highly recommend listening to it (before even reading anything about exorcisms or demons).

You can go here and do a search for it:

Also there is a complete list of books on the subject of the Angels and the demons here. I mention this, because what many people report as ghostly phenomena is often associated with demonic activity:

There are no ghost photos. All have been proven to be fakes.

Secondly nobody is “stuck” here. When you die you are immediately judged and your soul is either saved (straight to Heaven or Purgatory first) or condemned (straight to Hell).
There is no such thing as a soul which has not crossed over because of unfinished business.

What is your religion? Your profile does not state anything.

Sonic and Russell007, thank you so much, I will look into these references. I guess my imagination is open a bit wide since we just went through Halloween. That’s what I think of as “ghosts” but those to my mind are demons. I’ve heard a lot of stories of angels coming to earth and helping people through tough times (guardian angels). I just don’t think our dearly departed loved ones come back. I think that once we’re in the arms of our Father, we stay where we are. But as I’ve said, I’m not opposed at all to admitting when I’m mistaken. Please point me in the right direction if i’m on the wrong path here. :hmmm:

In His Love,

Hope

How do you know purgatory is not here? Heaven, hell, purgatory are not physical places. How do you know purgatory doesn’t occasionally intersect with our world here? I don’t think anyone knows for sure.

Personally speaking, I’ve never seen a ghost or had a spooky experience, but I know a few people who have experienced “something” unworldly, or other-worldly. These are people I trust, who don’t tend to let their imaginations run away with them. I don’t know if these beings are spirits of dead people or demons, but I believe they exist. I’m just glad I don’t run into them 🙂

I’ve had quite a few paranormal experiences, if you will, without having sought out any of them. Maybe some people just attract that sort of thing? The phantom dog I saw at work did not seem scary or threatening in the least - and when my beloved kitty died in September, the memory of that phantom dog gave me some comfort - I hate to think sweet kitty just ceased to exist. I know he’s not a person, and animals don’t have souls the way people do, but I hope I get to see him again one day. :angel1:

i have personally experienced ghost sightings and for some time have been able to hear whispers

i cannot comment on their true nature, of whether they are angels or demons or the souls of the departed. i have no way of knowing. it was a time i am facinated with the ability to communicate with the spirit world and just by my belief and thought these things occured. i did not practice any witchcraft or summoning or whatever

I am a Roman Catholic and NO not all so called ghost photos
have been proven a fake. That statement is false.

The church as far as I have seen does not have an official position on “ghost”

Besides sola scripture means someone has tried to fit an infinite
God inbetween two
coversof a book which is impossible.

What I mean is your cut and dry statements sound a lot like someone preaching sola sc riptura So if you have a tiny understanding about how infinite
God is and how large the universe is it leaves plenty of room to use your imagination and wonders of the unknown.
With God ALL THINGS are possible.

To view eternity search mandelbrotset applet/generator for now its the closest look your going to get.

A story in the bible “The witch of endor” is about a “ghost” a human spirit comming back.
1 Samuel 28:7.

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus’
This happend on earth and Moses had been dead for a long while.

Theres even a talking donkey in the bible! Numbers 22:27-28

My point is dealing with an infinate God beyond all human understanding its not always going to be black and white. As John said theres more much more!

It is most definitely black and white as to what happens when you die.
It is a teaching of the Church which all Catholics must believe and accept.
When you die you are immediately judged (The Particular Judgement).
If you die in an unrepented state of mortal sin you immediately go to Hell.
If you die in a state of grace you are immediately saved.
What only God knows is whether those saved go straight to Heaven or Purgatory first.

There are no lingering souls who have not crossed over. Such a belief would be heresy.

There have been occasions, particularly with the saints, where God has given them a sight of a soul in Purgatory for a reason unknown to us.

As for ghosts (which I did not say did not exist - I said all the photos are fakes - you said that’s not true then please tell me which photos of ghosts have been proven to be genuine)
or demons they are not from God but Satan.

How do you know purgatory is not here? Heaven, hell, purgatory are not physical places. How do you know purgatory doesn’t occasionally intersect with our world here? I don’t think anyone knows for sure.
Because its not even a theological hypothesis which it would be if it was thought to be a possibility. The Church or the saints would have speculated on this by now but they haven’t.

What you suggest is like saying animals go to Heaven. That is also wrong. Only humans have immortals souls. Animals have mortal souls which die when they die and they cease to exist.

Thats why I stated earlier “what are ghosts”? taken with a grain of salt, lets say for the sake of arguement…blah blah blah. I am not defending ghosts are lost souls that cant make it to heaven.

I have stated God is infinite and we dont know everything about the after life.

You are the one that stated all ghosts photo are fake so rather than I go through and pick 1 out from a billion of them and come back and ask you where was this photo debunked I think it would be easier for you defend your blanketed statement of where and by whoms authority that ALL ghosts pictures have been “proven” fakes.

Which means if ghosts are demons and I never said they were not those pictures count as ghosts pics too.

I dont claim that ghosts are lost souls or they are not. Even though the church teaches what happens after death it does not rule out ghost The are no official documents to my knowledge to cover them. Just because its not taught doesnt mean it doesnt exist. The church is silent on some issues 1. its not important to our salvation 2. keep the door open to possiblilities. For example we as Catholics to not have to have personal devotion to the saints in order to have full communion with the church.

There is littery an infinite realm of unknown knowledge we just dont know enough about heaven and God and to say spacifically this or that cant happen.

Could you in all charty give me spacific information where the church says **“There are no lingering souls who have not crossed over”? **I would like to learn more. Can you quote something from a council or cc or a vatican document? I am not looking for quotes that may lead one to believe a person does not linger and open to interpretation. But I want spacific “There are no lingering souls who have not crossed over” or at least a quote that comes close to that. I believe the church leaves open ended options to the things not important to our salvation.

Hey my post was in the form of questions not statements I feel I have left enough room for all possbile answers and teachings.

Peace be with you Seems like you could use some
