Hello everybody, I am new to this forum. I have a few questions and it seems that this is the best place to ask them. Well, I was wondering what the general feeling about Wicca & ghosts were. Lately i’ve been online on eBay looking up “Haunted Dolls” mostly for a good story. I’m a pretty open minded person about such things. I don’t necessarily believe those things are real, but I do believe it’s possible. Who am I to say they aren’t?

I’ve often wondered, what if I were to buy a haunted doll? Is it wrong of me to “believe” it’s for real? Is being in possession of an doll that a seller said belonged to a “good” witch and contained no negative “spirit” bad? I would mainly buy it for novelty purposes (+ it would be kind’ve cool to have something like that). I wouldn’t mean to buy it because someone put a spell on it, and now I believe in the religion that the spell was based on. To me, it’s more of an acknowledgement of other “energies”, I guess you could say. I can’t seem to see anything wrong with having a possession which is inhabited by a spirit that does not do anything evil. I may be wrong, but that is why I am here & asking.

About ghosts. What are they? Are they spirits caught in purgatory? Of course I am talking about the ghosts that most people usually think of. And generally speaking, I know to stay away from anything that is evil. Such as Ouijia, chanting, etc. Growing up, my mother has never let me see the movies “Poltergeist” or “Exorcist” because a “curse” that was based around those movies + they couldn’t be good for me in anyway. I still have not seen those movies and I don’t plan to either.

Please help me enlighten myself to stay on the true path, thank you!

A few years ago I was doing some research in satanic believes, of course in the name of Christ, what I found was kind of interesting, but it could be best describe through the movie called INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE.
As for the existence of evil powers let me tell you that I was writting down the words antichrist, beast, dragon all in Hebrew, but I stop when a weird force was making my hand move just as if I was playing with the wicca thing.

I am a little confused as to the dolls that you mention, so I can’t really comment.

Christians should not use the Ouija board, tarot cards or any sort of divination. It doesn’t matter whether these items contained any real power or not, the bible says that we shouldn’t mess with them and so we can’t.

I have seen Poltergeist and The Exorcist. Poltergeist was dumb, not scary at all, so it would be a waste of money. The Exorcist was very frightening and the script writers wanted people to see how horrible demonic possession was. Don’t see either movie if they make you doubt your faith or even, if they aren’t your cup of tea. As far as being cursed…I seriously don’t believe that curses work on Christians. Saying that they do would be tantamount to saying that the devil has more power then God.

There have been some discussion about Ghost on this board before. Perhaps you could do a search.

When I was younger, I explored Wiccan beliefs. Most followers are not evil and are not bad people. It is a religion though and we as Catholic can not include any of their practices in our daily life. Some confused Christians try to combine magic with Christianity but this is wrong.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut guys. The dolls I am talking about are on eBay. If you go to www.eBay.com and search “Haunted Doll”, you’ll see what i’m talking about. There are some haunted dolls for sale there, that I don’t know why ANYbody would want to buy. The sellers describe SOME dolls are “creepy, scary, bad spirits, etc”. I, of course, would never be interested in those. The curses my mother was talking about (I guess) are: Exorcist AND Poltergeist. I bet my mother did not know the details or anything, except that actors of the movies died. There isn’t anything that would make me doubt my religion. I could sit there and listen to people “prove” their point. But I don’t know very much about my religion ( 😦 i am totally willing to learn though). But i’m SURE there are “pro’s” to their “Cons”. Lousey Atheists

My best guess about the haunted dolls is that people are looking for a gimmick to make their dolls sell more easily on e-bay. There is probably nothing wrong with the dolls themselves. I would have to wonder about trusting a seller who resorts to such trickery, so I would probably pass on buying the items.

Personally why would you want to bring any evil into your home anyway?

I wouldn’t bring anything evil into my home. I promise that I wasn’t telling the Op that it was alright to purchase the dolls.

After reading a couple of the ads, I came to the conclusion that it was a gimmick meant to entice gullible people into buying a doll that probably has nothing evil or haunted about it. In other words, I believe that most of the sellers are lying.

I am not advising the poster to purchase these dolls, far from it. Either the dolls are evil-something that I doubt- and would not be good to have in your home. Or the seller is either a liar of a very unstable person -this is more along the lines of what I believe-whom you should not be doing business with anyway. Either way, the OP should leave these things alone.

I’m sure that these dolls are a gimmick. However, when I read* An Exorcist Tells His Story*, I was surprised to learn that it is possible to curse items. It is a perversion of a sacramental. A sacramental is a devotional item which can be an aid to prayer or to obtain actual grace. An example is rosary or holy card.

I heard a audiotape by an exorcist from NY who described seeing demonic faces in the smoke from a pile of burning occult items.
So, it is better not to even play around with that stuff.

By the way, I read the book relunctantly at the insistance of my mom. I am glad I did because many of my fears were dispelled. We have so many tools as Catholics–most of all the sacraments!

I don’t know, they COULD be a gimmick, or they could be real. But then, why would a spirit latch onto an inanimate object? I dunno. It’s probably right what one of you said, it probably wouldn’t be good having a haunted doll in my home. I’d be pretty freaked out if I left my seat to go to the kitchen, and then come back to find a doll sitting in my spot :bigyikes: ! But you should read the stories these people write about their dolls. They’re pretty neat, and just imagining that it could be real is be freaky. Hey, another question: Is the Grim Reaper part of Christianity?
